This summer, I intend to see Toy Story 4. To prepare for it, I revisited all three of the previous Toy Story films, and what a ride it was!

I grew up with the Toy Story film series and remain very fond of it to this day. In fact, the film series is almost as old as I am, since the original film was released the same year I was born.

To celebrate each film, I've decided to draw a little picture dedicated to all the movies.

Our first picture is a comical exaggeration of the aftermath of when Woody and Buzz rode around in the Pizza Planet car to catch up with Andy's family at the Pizza Planet restaurant. Seeing Woody get hurt from flinging around the truck because he dismissed Buzz's sound decision to ride in the front was just so hysterical! Some other bits from the original film that made me laugh include "Buzz, look! An alien!", Mr. Potato Head complaining about Andy's baby sister Molly slobbering all over him (and pantomiming that Slinky Dog is a butt-kisser), and Buzz pointing out that he doesn't think Sid has ever been to medical school.

The laughs also continued in the first sequel Toy Story 2, my personal favorite being when Buzz apparently told Deluded Buzz that Woody was royalty ('Your majesty!") Even today, I still tear up at the scene where Woody rubs off the paint from his boot covering up Andy's name while watching the scene from Woody's Roundup where Woody's marionette sings "You've Got a Friend in Me" while a boy hugs him.

The scene I drew for Toy Story 2 has a ridiculous interpretation I made of Al McWhiggin gloating that Woody would make him big "buck buck bucks". When I was young, I didn't really know much of how adults mainly value toys for the money they can make off them, so I actually used to think that for some reason Al planned to make Woody act like a chicken for his amusement!

I had a hard time thinking of the picture to use for Toy Story 3, so I drew it last. My original idea was to have some characters sing "The Boys Are Back in Town" by Thin Lizzy, since it is one of my favorite songs and was used in several advertisements for the first film (plus the teaser trailer to the second film). Instead, I ended up picking Rex playing the Buzz Lightyear video game with Trixie and finally succeeding at beating the boss fight against Evil Emperor Zurg.

Toy Story 3 was also a very good movie. There were still some more laughs, like when Barbie made Ken explain how to return Buzz to normal by tearing up his clothes as well as Buzz becoming a Spanish-speaking eccentric with bravado, but it was also a very emotional movie, with Andy Davis getting ready for college and Woody not being able to accept the idea of Andy outgrowing him and the other toys.

Still, it was nice that the film had a happy ending of Andy's toys finding a new home with Bonnie and Sunnyside daycare making things better for the toys now that Ken and Barbie are in charge.

While Toy Story 4 is presently the only Toy Story media I haven't seen before (and that includes the Toy Story Treats as well as the TV specials and short films), I still had a good idea what to draw in representation of the most recent film in the series. As many of you may be aware of, the organization P.E.T.A. (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, but the way they've acted would make it more believable that the acronym stands for Petulant Egotistical Trolls who are Asinine) protested against Bo Peep still having her shepherd's crook and sent a letter to PIXAR requesting that the movie be edited before release to remove the crook.

I think I speak for everyone (at least, everyone in their right mind) when I say that this could actually be even stupider than when they tried to ask Nickelodeon to make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles eat vegan pizza or that time they tried to talk us into using more animal-friendly idioms and figures of speech by equating the statements and slang alluding to harming or exploiting animals to bigoted speech. One reason why their protest is dumb is because the whole point of Bo Peep is that she is a shepherdess, and it's kind of hard to establish a character's job is herding sheep if they don't use a crook. Taking away Bo Peep's crook would basically make her unrecognizable! Also, she's just a toy, and even if she tried to use her crook on a real sheep and not a toy one, the darn thing would be too small!

And while the crook is used to pull at sheep, that's because the tool's purpose is to keep them from wandering off into danger! Banning the shepherd's crook would be like making it illegal to put dogs on leashes! Of course, we all know PETA knows diddly squat about treating animals properly, since they've also claimed that shearing sheep is harmful for them (when the truth is quite the opposite) and it's been reported that they've euthanized most of the animals (many of which were perfectly healthy and had nothing wrong with them) they've taken in simply because they're too lazy to bother finding good homes and would rather waste their money on crummy flash game parodies attacking works they know little about in addition to ad campaigns that accomplish nothing but making them total laughingstocks.

I haven't heard anything about how PIXAR responded to PETA's request, but knowing what most people in the world think of this legion of obtuse hypocrites (plus the amount of money and time that PIXAR would have to waste just to re-animate scenes to remove the crook when the movie is so close to being released), it's pretty unlikely that PIXAR have taken the request seriously.

I apologize for this description being derailed into a PETA rant. There's just nothing quite as cathartic as tearing into a person or group who is objectively bad. I will now explain the reasons I look forward to seeing Toy Story 4.

Lots of people have found the very existence of Toy Story 4 to be an unnecessary enigma, seeing that the third film wrapped up the story perfectly and didn't really think there was much point in doing another sequel, the more cynical-minded even believing that they were just making another sequel to get more money. I still want to give the latest movie a chance because it's my opinion that there is no point in despising a work you haven't even seen.

One unfortunate circumstance is that Don Rickles and R. Lee Ermey, the voice actors of Mr. Potato Head and the army men leader Sarge, both passed away in the interim between Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4. This guaranteed that Sarge couldn't ever return and caused grave concern on what would be done about Mr. Potato Head, since Don Rickles' performance was just too memorable and beloved to replace with a new voice actor and Mr. Potato Head was too prominent and well-liked a character to just eschew.

Apparently, what PIXAR did to get around the problem of Don Rickles having died is that they've chosen to make use of archived recordings of unused dialogue Don Rickles did for all the previous films so that, in a way, Don Rickles is reprising his role one last time from beyond the grave.

And a lot of fans were pretty saddened by Woody being separated from Bo Peep, so it's very likely that a major reason they did a fourth film in the first place was to have Woody reunite with Bo Peep to rectify those concerns.

None of the Toy Story films I've seen have disappointed me, and I'm sure that even if Toy Story 4 has some flaws, I won't regret watching it.
