For today's Halloween pic, I wanted to do fan art of one of my favorite DC comics teams: Scare Tactics. I knew that not many people know about these guys. Heck, I was only a toddler when their series originally came out and I only knew about them because I have DK Publishing's Guide to the DC Universe.

Because Scare Tactics are not well known, I decided to add some members of the Teen Titans to the background: Raven, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Nightwing, Starfire, Bunker, Superboy, and Miss Martian. Just so that this picture gets more hits.

Every member of Scare Tactics had their backstory.

Grossout- Real name is Philbert Hoskins. He was an overweight boy interested in astronomy who one night found a meteor in his yard. He poked it with a stick and he was bathed in a blue light that mutated him into a gray gluttonous blob.

Slither- Real name is James Tilton. His father was a corrupt biochemist who did experiments on his own son in hopes of breeding a human who was immune to cancer. Instead, James became a reptilian creature. He ran away from home and worked as a circus freak under the name Jimmy the Reptile Boy.

Fang- Real name is Jake Ketchum. He was a member of a family of werewolves who ran away because he didn't want to be like his family and they were trying to force him into marrying the daughter of a rival family to appease their feud.

Scream Queen- Real name is Nina Skorzeny. She was a vampire who saw a lot of her friends killed, so she went to America hoping that she wouldn't be exposed to such prejudice.

The four misfits met when an organization called R-Complex captured and imprisoned them. They managed to escape and formed a rock band aptly named Scare Tactics, with Fang playing guitar, Slither as the bassist, Grossout on drums, and Scream Queen as the lead singer. They had a man named Arnold Burnsteel as their manager and bus driver and had a lot of adventures.

Eventually, Slither became prone to violent outbursts and he pleaded Grossout to put him out of his misery. Grossout reluctantly complied. After Slither's death, he was replaced by an unnamed four-armed monster. Later, the member Grossout transformed into a virtual Adonis and flew to the stars he loved. Ever since, Scare Tactics broke up.

I looked the characters up on comicvine.com and found out that Scream Queen actually made an appearance in the Superman/Batman comics where she teams up with Batman and also says that the band might come back together. Sadly, this was the last we ever saw of Scare Tactics, and there don't seem to be any plans of bringing them back in The New 52. Though considering the number of flaws the New 52 has, it is probably for the best that Scare Tactics remains forgotten and floating in obscurity limbo.

The media hasn't paid much attention to this obscure gang, but the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Lego Batman: The Video Game has an achievement named Scare Tactics (I just think it is unlikely the name is just a coincidence). In addition, Batman: The Brave and the Bold had Scarecrow team up with a villain named Scream Queen in one episode. Only time will tell if Scare Tactics ever gets adapted into a DC media other than the comics, even if it's just a cameo.

I just like obscurity and I think that the DC shows should focus a little more on lesser-known characters. We all like Batman, Superman, and the Justice League, but not many people know of the Metal Men, the Doom Patrol, or even the Outsiders. It would be nice of those guys could get their own show or film instead of playing extra to the more well-known heroes.

I'd like to hang with them, too. I also plan to do a Chucky picture this year in honor of the latest release Curse of Chucky.
