As I'm still trying to adjust to the jet lag from the flight back from my family's vacation, I've struggled to come up with something new to draw.

After remembering yet another cartoon from my youth I have yet to revisit, Seven Little Monsters (based on a book of the same title by Maurice Sendak, who happened to be one of my favorite children's authors growing up), I then decided I'd start drawing fan art of that.

My original plan was to draw a picture solely of Seven, as he was always my favorite out of the seven siblings, but when I started Googling pictures of him to use for reference, I then decided it would be better if my first fan art of the seven monster siblings (at least, their incarnations in the cartoon) involved everyone.

I wasn't really thinking much on how I wanted to draw One and Two, but I drew Three holding a skull because I recall Three was a bit of a wannabe thespian who constantly assumed a different role (and Hamlet is one of the most famous plays of William Shakespeare, whose work is often on the resume of revered and experienced actors).

Four and Five are just standing around, but Six and Seven were when I got another light bulb go off in my head. Six was originally going to be depicted tumbling over, but I immediately thought it would be funnier to have her standing on Seven's detached head, with Seven being annoyed that he can't get his head back on until his sister removes her foot from it.

I have some ideas for stories I can use these monsters in, but it will have to wait until I finish catching up on this cartoon, as it has been many years since I last watched it and a personal rule I have regarding fan comics of my favorite works of fiction is that I try to only make comics based on works I am well-informed about (and considering the TV show lasted 40 episodes, there's no telling what moments from this show could serve as potential inspiration).
