Last night, I read about an unfortunate but inevitable event. Stan Lee, co-creator of several of Marvel Comics' most memorable superheroes, has passed away.

To honor him, I've decided to draw Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the original roster of the X-Men (Professor X, Angel, Iceman, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Beast), the Fantastic Four (Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Thing, and the Human Torch), and the Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Giant Man, the Wasp, and the Mighty Thor). I felt like including H.E.R.B.I.E. with the Fantastic Four just because.

It's not just the fact that he co-created our favorite Marvel heroes that we respect Stan Lee, True Believers. He also had involvement in many of Marvel's adaptations.

He narrated the 1982 Incredible Hulk cartoon, some airings of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, the unsuccessful pilot Pryde of the X-Men, and the video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

He even did some voice acting in Marvel's cartoons, playing the Mayor of Super Hero City in The Super Hero Squad Show, Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk's father in the 90's Hulk cartoon, Fred's dad in Big Hero 6 (technically qualifies as a Marvel adaptation, since it's loosely based on a Marvel comic), and even appeared as himself in the 1994 Fantastic Four cartoon, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Lego Marvel Superheroes, and several of the 2010's Marvel cartoons by Disney.

That's not even getting into the cameo appearances he's made in the various live-action film adaptations of Marvel, both third-party (like appearing as postman Willie Lumpkin and himself in the Tim Story Fantastic Four duology and as a janitor in The Amazing Spider-Man) and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I knew from the start that Stan Lee would eventually go to the Merry Marvel Marching Society in the Sky, but I advise that we do not cry for him. He lived a long life and he co-created many of Marvel Comics' most famous heroes, so I'd say that we should be happy that he's done what he's done.

Too bad he didn't live to see the Disney/Fox deal finish and thereby end the whole "X-Men and Fantastic Four can't appear in contemporary Marvel cartoons and video games as long as Fox still owns their movie rights" nonsense, but that's life. I wonder which upcoming Marvel film will be the first to be dedicated to his memory.

Excelsior!

Don't forget about Steve Ditko as well.

I'm aware of Ditko's passing as well. It's just hard to keep up with all the people dying this year.

We can agree, though, that it's sad that Spider-Man's an orphan in real life now.

Yeah he will definitely be missed, at least he will be inmortalized in some of the funniest cameos in cinema's history. Oh, and he was also the narrator in Spider-Man for the PSX, one of my favourite games based on him!

I did promise you that I'd draw a memorial picture in the event Stan Lee kicked the bucket.
