Too lazy to make anything but a sketch. Also I'm pretty bad at costume design as it turned out. Anyway here's the idea I had for Samara in a dress. Can't always walk around in armor.Tumblr luckyfk.tumblr.com/post/700138…

Cool. Samara says herself that the role of a Justiciar is similar to that of a Japanese samurai, so this costume has an appropriately oriental feel to it. Good job.

You are not bad at costume design, you are wonderful. I would have been able to take Samara so much more seriously if she'd been dressed like this. (Or, you know, if her armour had been a little more practical and realistic, rather than all cleavage-and-heels...)

Need to get to the armor sometime too. But they actually had a pretty cool armor design, but dropped it for some reason.

looks more like something you'd wear on a battlefield, rather than in a bedroom, hahaha! Still has a bit of cleavage showing, but in an attractive/tasteful way, rather than the BLUE BOOBIES IN YOUR FACE.

Yeah, that's the one. Looks so awesome. I even forgot that it had an opening there, thought it was solid. But hey, it looks nice and as you said not in your face.
I mean the first time I saw her in the game I was like "Are you kidding me, this is you spiritual monk-like warrior". The sad part is, she's a really cool, interesting character, but her visual design does her disservice.
Sometimes I just don't get these gamedeveloper peoples.

I can't help but think of a mixture of the more casual wear of those in the house of a samurai and the futuristic mass effect textures. And considering she even admitted the code was like the samurai and knight codes of humanity.

looks so much more like what justicars stand for. I always thought those giant boobs right in your face is almost tasteless considering she is kind of like ... a jedi or something ^^

Samara goes into combat with her tits hanging out. Meanwhile, Morinth lounges around wearing commando armor. It just don't add up!
I'm so glad you didn't skimp on the details of Samara's face. You didn't in your other picture of her. She has those silvery eyes, that strong, stern jaw, and that unusual headridge coloring. The expression on her face is so neutral, like she doesn't think the scene is at all unusual. The crew of the Normandy, on the other hand, was probably all crowding around to stare! I know I would. She makes the biotics display look so effortless, too, like blinking would take more effort.
The dress is very regal and elegant, befitting Samara. It's loose and flowing in some spots, snug and fitted in others. It's so much fancier and classier than her regular armor and a lot of the clothes you see other asari wear. Everyone's supposed to be wearing futuristic-looking clothes, and this has an ancient, historical look. It's a great contrast, even against the background. The geometric pattern on the middle part is the same as the one on her default armor. That's a nice touch, makes me wonder what the shape means to the Justicars. It also shows that you put more effort into designing and drawing the robe than just drawing a robe.
I'm going to go full lore nerd and say that the robe is so fancy it's actually out of place. Justicar trainees take an Oath of Poverty before they become full Justicars. In the Shadow Broker DLC, there's actually a list of all of the possessions she surrenders. Makes me wonder why she kept something so fancy. It must be very important to her. Maybe a Justicar ceremonial robe? It would explain why she still has it.
That brings me to the box she's carrying using her biotics. Where'd she get all of that stuff

Well my thoughts was when creating this that it is outfit they wear when not in armor. I assume they don't go around in armor all the time and Justicars doesn't strike me as jeans and t-shirt type ))) So it is ceremonial/everyday clothes. I imagine pattern and coloring are characteristic for Justicars, red-black-gold, you don't really see other Asari with that color combination.
The box contains her armor and weapons and her small list of possessions (sins you reminded me of it), that pretty much all she has in that box )
Well, that's about it. Not quite happy with it, I think I want something even looser. Well, back to the drawing board )))

That's a good point. The box could be filled with the few things Samara does have, things like armor, weapons, and casual clothes.
I know that in an idle conversation at Nos Astra on Ilium, Samara says that most people spend their days filling their lives with fancy possessions and empty tokens. She follows that by saying she's not interested in that kind of life.
I like the robe design. I don't think you should change it. Its colors and design say "regal". Its fit and the shirt she has on beneath that looks like a simple t-shirt say "casual". The binding around the middle keeps it from flying open and keeps it out-of-the-way. What exactly do you not like about it? You say you want to make it looser? Do you want to make it a full, loose robe?

That's more intricate than the current design. It looks really cozy, but it looks like it has a different purpose than the robe's current design. The current design looks ceremonial. That new design looks like something a rich asari would wear around the house, like a really fancy house bathrobe. There's also something about it that says to me that it's for the elderly. I can't put my finger on it.

I guess she's really confident in her biotics, so doesn't really need protective armor. But that cleavage-armor didn't really fit the warrior-monk feel that was coming from the talks with here and her character in general.

Yes, indeed. Her biotics could be used as a shield or something like that, so... Her armor is a bit useless. Aria, in the DLC Omega, doesn't wear an armor and doesn't seem to need it. Like Samara, she is a very powerful biotic. Her powers are both a weapon and a protection. (and seriously, her low-necked is heresy in term of protection...)
The kimono fits her perfectly : it highlights her wisdom, one of the qualities that a Justicar has to have.
