Description
Thoughts: Installment number two. I have a long road ahead.
Here we see 'Gaster Follower 1' (herein known as Albert), hale and well, though nervously attending an invitation from the Queen. He has brought a certain journal a very long way - in this earlier age, the Underground doesn't have most of the convenient infrastructure we see in Undertale proper. It's time he starts answering some questions about a certain someone.
However, in his nervousness, he seems to have forgotten some of his manners. When introducing yourself in the Monster world, a name goes hand-in-hand with what type of Monster you are. Albert is hesitating to mention Gaster's exact qualities, and would sooner evade to other topics - I wonder why?Β Toriel is starting to notice. Not only that, Albert makes a poor liar - you can read that air of trepidation in the pupils of his eyes; they've gone a little more narrow as he stares down the journal on the table.
Toriel is very perceptive, and will have already seen plenty of nuances in the journal that she will be asking about. In such an isolated underground world, small, interesting details can point to great potential.
(If anyone is curious as to whether Albert is related to the Ficus-fellow, I cannot say, aside from 'it seems likely.')
For bonus points, who can spot all of the dirty hacker shortcuts I took in the visuals?
For me, this is a learning experience. I am doubtful I will be able to update this at all regularly.

Ah, yes. Correctness of perspective, my great enemy. This is especially true for interior or urban settings - they'd proven to slow me down rather a lot, all throughout.
Still, I am a stickler for detail, though my goal in this project has also been to simplify my style. O Life, I don't think I can walk that path. My art-mind's structure will not let me.
Not to mention that no matter how I try, the relative heights of short Albert and the average(female) height of Toriel never seem to rest well. (How Monsters contend with the large disparity in sizes of people - yet alone traits of self - is another thing entirely. Yet, just as substantial.) This has further effects on the need for higher or lower perspective shots, and implications for general angles of character interaction. Gaster is slightly taller than Toriel (but not by much), and Asgore just towers over everyone. That places Albert at just over half of Gaster's height. Depiction and angle problems ensue.

Heh, someone's been writing a Handplates fanfic where another one of the Gaster Followers is called Ager. Why are Gaster Followers always given names starting with "A"? : 3Β Β

Heh. Amusing to see. And a curious coincidence.
If you want the details, or, so far as my rough plans go, the three followers would be Albert, Eustace, and 'Simulacrum' (more often called 'Simon'). However, Gaster meets 'Simon' next, and Eustace last.
It's curious to hear of the details of others' work. Thank you for sharing.

Those are nice names. (coming up with good names for fictional characters can be hard, at least for me).
But yeah, a fellow Deviant named Rogue123987 has been writing a Handplates fanfic exploring how things might have possibly played out had Gaster chosen "Mercy". I think it's a pretty good story, and I like to share it with fellow Handplates fans. If you're everΒ interested in reading it, just ask me for the link or look for the link on Rogue's Deviantart page.
Good luck with your comic! : )

Interesting. I've just taken a look at Rouge's work. Please give her my regards. Writing is it's own fine art - and it's been more than a few years since I've had a chance to try my hand at it in any capacity meant for others.
Amid all of the study-reading I do, a leisurely read of fiction is a refreshing draught.
As for names, I'd noted that many minor NPCs in Undertale have oddly normalalized name tendencies. Most of what I'd arrived at for my own purposes are merely ones that came up on an intuitive whim, and stuck. 'Albert' being one, standing more for the notion of a small, noble soul. But also, Frank Herbert's work "The Godmakers" had a quote (if my memory serves) that's long come to mind over this: "...Even a god needs a friend." Albert is all honesty and normalcy - a good counterbalance to Gaster's eccentricity and shadow.

Things that are born through intuition or spontaneity are often the best, haha.Β
And I'll remember to give Rogue your regards. ^_^
