Description Storm water Tunnel
Taken in the same storm water tunnel that I took the graffiti picture.. another image Ive developed and enlarged myself.. Nothing tinkered with, the lighting naturally did that and the color really did have a weird green tinge to it despite being black and white film.. Obviously my darkroom mistake

I sure did.. I swear hon, if you ever get yourself into a darkroom to do your own pics you will love it so much you'll never want to leave. The developing part isnt much fun, lots of standing around, counting, waiting.. but the enlarging part is the best.. There are just so many ways you can manipulate images for new effects ect further than usual.
Suprisingly I didnt have any problems with the chemicals.. I think if you get to work in a really well ventilated darkroom unless you go sticking your nose close to them, the chemicals dont really smell at all. About the worst thing I ever did was sniff them when I couldnt read the bottle labels in the dark which I freely admit is a really fucking stupid thing to do.. I think its the developer I could be wrong.. but one of them smells like salt and vinegar samboy chips x 1000. My saliva glands practically exploded, My eyes nearly fell out of their sockets and I had to go sit outside so I didnt faint.

I've had lots of people tell me similar, that I would love it, and how easy it is, but no one has actually set me aside to show me what to do, I'm a bit scared to start out on my own. I could possibly do it in my bathroom because I can get it very dark, but the ventilation isn't that great.

And I can imagine you sniffing the wrong thing and nearly passing out!!! I guess you (or I) won't be doing that again!!

Are there any darkroom specific tafe courses you could do? We have few here, they run once a week over say.. 10 weeks for a few hours on a Tuesday night. Instead of the course being about taking photo's.. you just go out during the week and snap a few rolls and then come in to the college and they show you how to develop them and enlarge them over 1-2 sessions and then the rest of the time you basically just have access to the equipment and can go beserk doing whatever you want. Doing something like that might be a good first step, and I dont think its overly expensive.

I know what you mean about having your own darkroom though.. Im desperate to set one up in our laundry but Id have to install shelves and one of those light/ventilation systems so I cant knock myself unconcious

I've looked into it before but I don't think the tafe does . Also the community college didn't the last time I checked either, but surely in a city as big as Sydney there has to be somewhere!!! I'll look into it. Imagine how much $$ I'd save!
