The markings at his neck alone hint at the possibility he's some kind of second coming of the Rikudo Sennin, the man had a necklace that looked jsut like that.
Add to that, that he's pretty much the incarnation of the principles that the Rikudo Sennin's chosen son held so high... So yeah, either he takes the Juubi into himself, merges with it, sacrifices himself to destroy it, it comes down to a showdown between a 'nicer' Kyuubi and an incomplete Juubi. Remember, he told Kyuubi we would treat him a lot better than before, and he's turned around his enemies before...
