i didnΒ΄t use any tool for blending, every tone is done with crossing lines, and i used ballpoint pens, Bic Brand.

heh, sure, i have 5 (or so) tutorials in my profile, but about the shading stuff, it really depends what material you wanna use, if you are doing something with... say, carbon, graphite, pastels, anything like that, you may be using paper, which must have a good texture so itΒ΄s not really hard so that your pencils or whatever you use donΒ΄t slip, after youΒ΄ve given an area of your drawing enough work, you can use several tools to rub the surface and obtain a homogenic look to it, giving it a bit of style and other effects, you can even add more texture by sanding it, using sponges and whatnot. If youΒ΄re using ink itΒ΄s a completely different thing, maybe you can narrow down your projects to a specific wanted result and ask me again what you may do within a specific case, cheers!
