History: Victor is the son of the scientist Silas Summers [Silas Stone + Katherine Summers] and the Air Force pilot Elinore Summers [Elinore Stone + Christopher Summers]. When he and his younger brother Grant Summers [Damage/ Grant Emerson + Havok/ Alex Summers] were kids, they went on a flight in the family’s plane, piloted by Elinore.

Suddenly, a spaceship of the Shi’ar alien empire materialized in the sky, accidentally setting the family plane ablaze. One of the four parachute backpacks in the plane caught fire. Silas made the boys share one parachute and pushed them out of the plane. Elinore told Silas to jump and she’d be right after him. After Silas jumped, however, his parachute caught fire. Elinore tried to alert him, saying she’d save him in her jump, but the plane exploded before she could leave it. Victor was able to catch his father, but the weight became too much for a single parachute, so they started to fall faster. Victor, then instinctively used his mutant optic blasts for the first time to slow down their descent, being fully able to control his powers. Unbeknownst to him, Grant and Silas, Elinore was teleported to the Shi’ar ship before the plane exploded. She was also unaware that Silas survived (she’d later found and lead the space pirate crew named Omega Jammers [Omega Men + Starjammers], but that’s a long story, left for another occasion).

Silas feared that Victor could be persecuted because of his powers, so he asked the telepath Niles Xavier [Chief/ Niles Caulder + Prof. X/ Charles Xavier] to mentally block the boy’s powers.

As Victor grew up, Silas used him as a test subject for intelligence enhancement experiments. It worked, as his IQ reached genius level, but he resented being treated as a guinea pig. It made him rebel against very intellectual activities, so he engaged in the opposite: physical activities. He pursued an athletic career, much ho his father disappointment.

One day, Victor had a very harsh argument with Silas in the latter’s laboratory. Victor increasing anger somehow broke Xavier’s mental blocks and he accidentally shot an optic blast, which shot one of Silas experimental machines, activating it and opening an interdimensional portal. An enormous fiery creature emerged partially from the portal and brutally attacked Victor, burning most of his body. Silas was able to send the creature back to its dimension and close the portal.

Silas used his scientific skills and access to prototype prosthetic research to save Victor’s life, replacing his damaged body parts with cybernetic ones. He also created a ruby-quartz visor so that Victor could control his optic blasts. Despite being saved, Victor felt like a freak and resented his father for this.

He found a new purpose in life when Niles Xavier invited him to join the X-Titans, a group of people like Victor. Niles helped Victor to accept himself and make peace with his father. In the group, he fell in love with Donna Grey a.k.a. Wonder Phoenix [Wonder Girl/ Troia/ Donna Troy + Phoenix/ Marvel Girl/ Jean Grey].

For some reason, the villain Minister Blood [Brother Blood + Mister Sinister] became obsessed with Victor and Donna and wanted to make genetic experiments with them. One of these experiments resulted in the time-traveler Richard Summers, a.k.a. Rip Cable [Richard “Rip” Hunter + Cable/ Nathan Summers].

Victor’s brother Grant Summers also developed mutant powers (his whole body can absorb and produce energy blasts), adopting the codename Ravage [Damage + Havok].
