Description Voldo from the Soul Blade/Calibur series.

"HHHHHHHhhhHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHH!" - Voldo, Soul series

My super late entry for the SoulBlade 20th Anniversary Tribute at

What can I say, Voldo has been my favourite character from the series ever since the first game, the freaky deisgn, even freakier movements, awesome weapons and some pretty damn unpredictable attacks. But then again, how else could you look and fight when being blind, deaf and mute, sensing your opponent only through smell (and possibly spider sense XD). Some were appaled by his rather obviously S/Mish choice of clothing, but I'd say it goes well with the character, and it is part of his theme. Ya know, loyalty to the point of blind slavery, as he is completely obedient to each and ANY of his master's orders, even long after his master's death. Also, he sports a pair of katars, which are among my favopurite weapons ^^
So of course, I took this opportunity to experiment with some more elaborate & freaky poses, and this is the result, though I wouldn't be surprised if he did a similar pose during any of his attacks XD I think it looks good, especially after such a long break |D

Also, drew him in his SC3 outfit, he looks amazingly bizarre in each one of his outfits, no matter how sick it is, but this one is just my favourite ^^ the details and patterns were plenty and required multiple reference arts depicting him from different angles, mostly due to the freaky pose I chose, but I think I pulled it off ^^

Had to look up some contortionist photos online to get a good pose for this guy XD and even with a clear image, it was really hard to get it done properly.
But I'm happy with the result, and even more happy you like it so much ^^

Well, I did not expect you to know anything about the character or game... just something, anything...

If someone doesn't appear for months and then pops up, you get excited about their comment to find, well this... you do have to admit it feels kinda disappointing

Well, the only inappropriate thing about it is calling upon that that humanoid cancerous tumor that should die like it's nickname suggests... and those aren't even his words, those be from rapper Rich Boy.

Cause otherwise, even a 60 year old or so guys can get their ass complemented if you like it so much

Lets just say, very few beings disgust me as much as that abhorrent excuse for a living being... even flies and cockroaches I truly despise are a step above from that humanoid cancerrous tumor...

Aside from mentioning him, that was funny.

When  I was little, about 6 years old and played the soul calibur in the arcade I though that he was some eccentric italian noble...

I only spammed scissors move (the ground charge forward,to win XD )

Still,Taki was always my main,
but Voldo in the right hands can escape from any situation.

LukeTheRipper In reply to trumi [2016-01-14 20:20:15 +0000 UTC]

Actually, former Italian noble who's family was taken by war and sickness, who somehow found himself in the servitude to an extremely wealthy Italian merchant. And it seems he takes his orders serious, as he is keen on fulfilling them even long after his master's death, the S/M theme was probably added to signify that as much as possible.

And lets just say, Voldo has been my main from the very start up until SCIV & V where they really screwed up his gameplay and changed most of his commands for the worse...

SC4 Voldo was arguably his best incarnation gameplay wise, he all the tools he needed at his disposal, all the mixups and whacky gimmicks to throw your opponents gameplan off balance, but his most shining aspect was his ability to easily wreck your opponents soul gauge, you go from solid blue to blinking red by the end of the first round.

SCV Voldo...how do I say it...was made more accessible, yh that's about right actually...he's easier to play.
They took out some of his moves and streamlined them with everyone else's generic moves, his control scheme was easier to input aswell, but to be fair it doesn't make him any less effective...he still has the tools he needs, the pokes and mixups, and hella abuse-able tactics at his disposal...because nobody really knows how to handle the matchup lol...and I if I recall, he actually does more damage, but more importantly...he's still a pain to fight against.

Well, can't really agree here. As a Voldo player from the very first game, I have to say Voldo was at his best in SC2 followed by SC3.
well, granted, in SC2 almost everyone was broken in some way, and Voldo wasn't an exception, he had way too many really cheap tactics you could exploit, especially his down+Ax3, K combo.
In SC3 he got balanced along with the rest and pretty much came back to his more technical style, very technical, but devastating once you learned how to use him efficiently.

I'd say SC4 was the one that made him "accessible", and that may be why you say he's the strongest there. But no, he's not really quite as effective as he was in his previous two incarnations.

As for SC5, well, he was different, never said worse, just really, really different from how he played. He got some pretty nice moves, but lost many of his really nasty tools that made him so deadly if yopu knew how to use 'em. Then again, they could have made him as overly complicated as Viola is, and she's hardly worth the trouble to learn...

Chipp-Zanuff In reply to LukeTheRipper [2016-05-20 13:45:27 +0000 UTC]

SC2 had some game-breaking glitches in the system and NM was one of the few who could abuse them alongside Xianghua. But yh voldo was no exception.

SC3 he was slightly better

SC4 he had more of a complete moveset...and as I say before his most shining ability was being to wreck the soul gauge within the first round

SCV everything was streamlined and pretty much was made accessible...Voldo got changed around a lot...for the better or not I don't know, but Enkindu, DIME, Maxou and Yutoto know how make good use of his new abilities, like his 666B is so good and hard to step...even for NM who has the second best step in the game...not to mention Voldo is the only character in SCV to have a legit "Step G".

BTW Viola isn't overly complicated at all and is one of the most broken characters in the whole game...trust she isn't much hard to learn and is definitely worth the "trouble" if there is any at all...to learn.

LukeTheRipper In reply to Chipp-Zanuff [2016-05-23 11:02:21 +0000 UTC]

SC2 - I'm not talking about glitches, I'm talking about old fashioned broken combos XD and I can tell you Voldo had plenty.

SC3 - and trust me, it's far from "slightly better", you just have to really know how to work his moves to make him as deadly as he can be >D but once you do, hell, there's little that can stop you.

SC4 - well, this IS the only one part where the Soul gauge works this way, so there's hardly a reason to have Voldo do that elsewhere <: D so I do not think it's a shining ability of any sorts given this is the least good game in the series (aside from Lost Swords Cause) so one will rather play the good ones rather than that. Also, THIS is the glitchfest part, with lots of unblockable combos which only work based on which side of the screen you're standing or whether you're player 1 or 2 XD and the moveset wasn't "complete", just simplified to make him more accessible, which in a huge part ruins the character's purpose... it's pretty much like if they took Zappa and gave him Ky's movelist to make people use him more often, or like if they took Geese Howard and made him into a simple shoto...

SCV - yes, he was changed, for "better" or "worse" is debatable, but still not as strong as he was in SC3.

And I have been playing SCV enough to know Viola, and not just casual players, I've battled many pro players using Viola and haven't lost to her once. Sure, she might have a lot she can offer, but is far to weak to actually utilize it effectively unless your opponent just stands there blocking instead of attacking you. So unless Viola does give me some trouble beating her, let alone defeat me, I rest my case, she's just wasted potential.

Chipp-Zanuff In reply to LukeTheRipper [2016-05-23 20:21:26 +0000 UTC]

I'll agree on that SC4 sux so bad...

Voldo on whether he was changed for better or worse I don't know, I don't play Voldo...if I was to make a guess I'd say for the better due to SCV's streamlined moveset for everyone, Voldo's "easier" access (I say easier because he's still pretty hard to pick up) and SCV's overall game mechanics such as the Guard Impact and Just-Guard system allowing Voldo guaranteed punishes.

However what I do know is that DIME, Maxou and Yuttoto still make him look really good, especially with DIME winning 2 CEO's in a row, Maxou coming 2nd place at last years EMS, triumping over Gold Shad and Lolo; Frances best alpha Patroklos and Mexico's best Yoshimitsu etc

honestly I'd like to know these pro-players names...because believe me when I say it doesn't take long to learn her OP combos and just rip your opponent to shreds...she has a lot to utilise but the point she doesn't even need half of it. HolyCarp says it best "when it comes to Viola, if you guess wrong, you're eating 60-80% dmg...f you guess right she's a +8 frames"

so either you're playing against people who got clue about the voldo matchup, or they really are just casual players with a pretty rank next to their name...imho I could probably practice Viola for about 30 mins and be able to beat you...purely because that's how dumb she is

Hahahaha "HHhhhhHHHHHhhhhhHHHHH!".

That's so cool man. I love how he's posed. Really fits his eccentric movements. Also,  I think this kinda looks like it's in the style of old kabuki/samurai ukiyo-e paintings with the wierd/exaggerated pose, only more tribal. Awesome stuff!

I've been adding flavor texts under my arts for a while now, and while I could have added a line about Voldo said by one of the other characters, this one was just too tempting XD

And thanks, worked really hard to give him a fittingly freaky and keep the anatomy as correct as possible at the same time |D
And that wasn't really my goal, as I just wanted a really freaky and twisted pose for Voldo, but yeah, I can see your point here XD

imbisibol In reply to LukeTheRipper [2016-01-15 07:31:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, as weird as his pose is... the anatomy does seem pretty much correct. It gives it a more modern feel, compared to ancient drawings or ukiyo-e paintings. But hey, who cares. That's not even your goal. And it looks freakishly awesome anyway. XD

You're welcome man!

I am not too farmiliar with the character but WOW-this is epic!!!
The odd posture is what caught my eye at first-you have really caught the unorthadox fighting style look with the figures twisting limbs(almost looking quite painfull!!!)
This is a fine piece and i feel you have done the subject great justice with this work-BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pose is kinda how he rolls... literally XD
Most of his attacks have him twist and bend in a similar fashion, and I doubt he'd object if it hurt, even more so if it hurts the opponent even more in the process >3
