Description
Overdrive Ostrich (aka Sonic Ostreague) from Megaman X2.Part 3/12 of my MMX tribute project.
Late as fuck yet again, heh, maybe this month I'll be lucky enough to finish the submission on time |D
Anyways, back to this one, heh, you can always leave it to Capcom to make even the most random things awesome as hell, be it obscure characters in their crossovers or not exactly ferocious animals as MMX bosses >D
Cause in all seriousness, how many of you didn't go "LOLWTF?" after hearing about an ostrich-based boss in MMX2? ;3
Yes, I was just as surprised at first, but after playing the game and fighting him... damn, is this guy awesome XD Well, he might not be my top fav MMX2 boss (yes, I still randomize these), but he was second only to Wheel Gator, I mean seriously, arriving late for his own boss fight, yet jumping in from the far away background like a boss, now that's friggin' style >D he also had a unique boss arena that wasn't confined by walls (nor had bottomless pits on the sides, like with Storm Eagle or The Skiver), but stretch out endlessly, meaning you could run as far as you'd like, heh, not that it mattered though, since O. Ostrich was far quicker than you anyway >D
Anyways, Overdrive Ostrich, the one known as Swift Runner of the Sandy Plains, proved to be quite a match. As in, he was hard as hell to draw in general, starting from the MMX'ish anatomy, which made it hellishly hard to pose this guy (well, at least after I chose the pose, I got it just the way I wanted, unlike Sting Chameleon XD), and ending with all the bloody details (and damn, this isn't even the time where MMX design complexity was at it's highest...), which in turn made it far more time consuming than it should |3
But again, I can only blame myself and deal with it |3 at least I hope the work paid off and that it looks good |3
Other parts of the project - MMX (hero) , MMX1 , MMX2 , MMX3 , MMX4 , MMX5 , MMX6 , MMX7 , MMX8 , MMX: Command Mission , MMX ally , MMX (rival)

Him, Stag, Centipede and Gator are the most badass in X2
Well done

Well, for me, each boss in the X games had something kinda awesome to 'em, but that may be because I'm a huge fan of MMX in general |D
The only part with completely bland and uninteresting bosses was X8 (and even that part had Dark Mantis and Burn Rooster who were pretty cool), and this is coming from someone who thought even oddballs like Wire Sponge and Tornado Tonion had some degree of coolness |D
And finally, thanks, glad you like it ^^

Playing against Ostrich was a great challenge if you doesn't use its weakness. Which is okay, for the reason, to use more techniques in defeating him.. And yes, he is a badass.

I'd say each boss was quite a challenge without the weapon... OK, maybe except for a few.
But yeah, Ostrich was one of the unique ones ^^

Ostrich, in my viewpoint, was one of those bosses who started to use different kinds of battle-scenes to represent their unique abilities.

Erm, wasn't that Storm Eagle back in X1, with that airplane arena of his, with pitfalls on the sides and whatnot.

The Skiver took that idea in X5, and that drunken-camera moving at any corner. (In my case)

X5 was notorious for taking inspiration from previous parts XD
Skiver's arena being all to similar to Storm eagle's, Duff's stage having many resemblances with Bubble Crab's, both being underwater chases after a powerful submarine and the music is almost identical, or the laser beam part of the Sigma stages, which is almost the same as in Quick Man's stage. And that's barely the surface >3

RuneKerianDrake In reply to LukeTheRipper [2014-04-19 05:33:10 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, we can say them as similar or closest examples, or almost identical to other stages in past franchises...
That can be some kind repetitive and kinda boring as well...but, I liked to see different battle transitions as Grizzly X5 who buries around,Β Magma Dragoon X4, Heatnix mixing Eagle's as Dragoon's; and the list continues nowadays.

Hehe, most of my biggest favs is clogged in X6, but Ostrich certainly was awesome in his own way, and memorable as hell ^^

Oooooh another one from the challenge!!! I love the more forward hand. And that bill looks perfect 0.o maybe it was easy for you, but I've always had an extremely hard time drawing duck bills

LukeTheRipper In reply to Kai45 [2014-04-14 18:30:39 +0000 UTC]
Oh trust me, it wasn't "easy"in the slightest |3
I'm not exactly as skilled as Juta when it comes to them sketches, so any sketch I make for my arts can sometimes take up to a few hours until I get it right |D
And considering this was my first time drawing a duck bill, yeah, it was pretty challenging, but I guess it paid off ;3

I am slow too................... maybe I wont be after my challenge!
It certainly did, you made it look so perfectly effortless!

LukeTheRipper In reply to Kai45 [2014-04-18 09:32:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, my small obsession with dem details isn't exactly helpful with improving my speed, so I guess I'll just be doing them arts at my own pace |3
π: 0 β©: 1
Kai45 In reply to LukeTheRipper [2014-04-20 13:01:09 +0000 UTC]
Maybe you could do a challenge focused on speed too? I don't plan to let my amount of detail decrease, I just want to get faster at doing them, at the same quality or more, that I do now.

Oh trust me, I have thought about that... but each time something comes up and breaks my schedule, etc. |D
I guess I just prefer to work at my own pace |3
Though yeah, being way too busy at times doesn't make it any easier |3

Kai45 In reply to LukeTheRipper [2014-04-20 18:04:46 +0000 UTC]
That's exactly why I'm doing it if I get fast enough hopefully I can do art during the school year next year. Sometimes. I didn't realize how happy it made me until I went back after not drawing forever, and did some art. There were some times I was seriously down and could have used a distraction as easy and quiet as drawing that actually made me happy at the same time. But I never had the time...

Hehehe, guess we all have our own ways towards improvement |3
In my case speed practise doens't do much good... no matter how fats I try to draw a pic, I end up fussing about the details and end up doing it slower |D

Well, considering I only ever draw a character once in my tribal style, I just want them to look as perfect as possible ^^

I'd say they're all badass, that's why I decided to randomize these instead of picking the ones to draw XD
But I'm happy to hear you like the pic ^^

EdmondTheXenoBeetle In reply to LukeTheRipper [2014-04-10 15:53:39 +0000 UTC]
Well, you are mostly correct that all are badass. The only exceptions are Tornado Tonion, Flame Hyenard, and Ground Scaravich, to name a few.
And of course. You're art is creative.

LukeTheRipper In reply to EdmondTheXenoBeetle [2014-04-10 16:28:49 +0000 UTC]
It's a matter of how you look at it, I actually found those to be badass in their own way as well. I mean, Hyenard is a badass flame hyena (the only thing I ever heard people complain was "BURN TO THE GROUND!, but it's not half as annoying as the MM8 voiceover), Tonion wasn't the impressive type, but unique, and Scaravitch was rolling that huge-ass rock like a boss, a rock you wouldn't be able to avoid without those conveniently placed wires >D
Plus, it would be boring if all the bosses were awesome in the same exact way, so it's nice to have some oddballs like thoese 3, or Wire Sponge, Volt Catfish, Optic Sunflower, etc. who are also great bosses in their own way.

Of all the oddball Mavericks, I really like Wire Sponge. Despite his name, though, he's actually a sea cucumber, from what I can tell. He reminds me of Kevin the Sea Cucumber from the Spongebob Squarepants episode "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic". I also like Spike Rosered. (I honest prefer to refer to the X5 bosses by their Japanese names.
Also, I'm making my own fan crossover series called Mortal Kombat vs. Mega Man X Universe. How cool does that sound?

LukeTheRipper In reply to EdmondTheXenoBeetle [2014-04-10 17:04:26 +0000 UTC]
To each their own. And the English X5 bosses reference Guns 'N' Roses, which I love to this day, so yeah, I like these a lot XD
Hmmm, and well, it "sounds" cool. But in all honesty, I don't see it working... MK is a very specific, dark themed universe, and as dark as MMX has been at times, it's dark in a whole different way. In other words, adding anything from one to another would just look completely out of place, MK brutality in MMX would be pretty odd, and the reploid designs would look equally odd in MK.
There are other series which work far better for crossovers with these IMO, like MK with Soul Calibur (which is much darker than some might realize), and MMX with the likes of Guilty Gear or BlazBlue, but that's just me. If you want to make it, feel free to do so.

Don't worry, I wasn't saying they were dumb. In fact, the name "Duff McWhalen" is so funny and memorable. Also, Mattrex (Burn Dinorex in Japan) sounds appropriate, maybe because the last 4 letters in his name spell "T-Rex".
Also, in X6, as ya might be aware, Infinity Mijinion's theme sounds similar to the song "The Final Countdown" by Europe. Also, Neon Tiger's theme in X3 sounds similar to the Guns N' Roses song, My Michelle. What's ironic is that the composer of of that theme had no idea at the time what Guns N' Roses was.
I also plan to do other MK crossovers, such as MK vs. Mega Man Classic, MK vs. Darkstalkers, and maybe even MK. vs. Dragon Ball Z, though I'm not to sure about the latter one, possibly because the MK characters would probably get their asses kicked.

Hehe, don't worry, I did not think you meant that XD
And I despite how I use the English names (since I'm more used to these), I do know the Jap. name of each Maverick boss (and even note these in their respective descriptions).
Also, yes, I do know the music issue. The reason is pretty simple, as there is only so many of ideas in general that people can think of, so it's inevitable that some people will think of the same thing even when oblivious that something similar has been made. That, or great minds think alike" as they say XD
Heh, and if you really want, then go ahead, I'd say MM Classic is even less suited for this than X, and Darkstalkers and DBZ are pretty much too cartoony. But I'm not stopping you if you really wanna do it |D
