Pretty sure Rose is my favorite gem
This took quite a while. Even though I do like how it turned out, I kind of still prefer the sketch. (Or at least the hair in the sketch)
Β At least I actually made a decent background for once. It was inspired by some SU backgrounds I looked at on Google Images for inspiration.
Remind me never to do Rose's hair in detail again :/

i love the line art, saw the original drawing you made and this is much better.
but i have the feeling that the flowers on the tree are a little bit less work put on them.
and you should have put the flowers over the tree branch, because now you have put them too far on the back ground.
but the rest is still amazing.

This looks really good overall! I really love how you put your own spin and technique on it but at the same time you made the character retain its style and familiarity. The background looks very nice and it looks like a nice clean version of the somewhat messy backgrounds in the show. I do feel like you should possibly color all of the lineart instead of just parts because that adds a very nice touch. The positioning of the eyes is a bit funny but it isn't too much to fret about. I really like this piece overall! Especially since Steven universe is one of my fave shows.

I looked at the shows reference and some lines were left black, but I'll probably color them all next time. The eyes did bug me for a bit, took me a few minutes but I didn't want to mess them up any further. Thanks for the comment!

Adorable and lovely picture! My one main critique though is your shading and values (the differences between light and dark); your shadows just aren't dark enough. Dark shadows can be very, very scary, because in our minds there's always this threat that your drawing will get lost inside all that darkness and it will be ruined forevah! Β Yet, there is no need to fear! For this threat isn't actually as big as we like to make it out to be.Β Also, you need some hard shadows in there (ones with cleaner and harder lines), this mixture will help add more shape and form to your image. So, my advice for your is to experiment more with darker shadows and hard shadows. I highly recommend drawing from life or just observing how shadows and light fall on people in real life. Watch closely...Β Β Β watch closely very closely...Β Β AND HAVE FUN!

Just a reminder about Rose's hair; is thicker. Her curls are bigger. But it is fair to remind you not to do Rose's curls in detail again.
Overall, the drawing is beautiful. Keep drawing that way.
