Description
I mentioned these in my previous upload of Garnet. This is a nice place to share a bit of lore about them.I'm planning to do a proper reference of every creature I end up designing, but this will do for now.
---
The large fullbody is what they look like on average. Large ears, long whiskers, intricate patterns on their bodies. Those patters do not glow and are just darker or lighter shades of their skin colour. Kind of like the Twili and the Shadow Kargaroks.
I drew a head to get a better feel at what they look like and what the proportions are. They do not have eyes, more about that in the lore below.
The other doodles are just fun cat shenanigans to show how cat-like they still are. Middle-right image is a size comparison with an average Twily, and they're absolutely tiny. The Twili skyrocketed in average height, Shadowcats never did since their natural diet never grew in size either.
Bottom right is, er, the infamous antenna as my brother likes to put it. Blep shows the colour contrast with body and insides. The insides are colourful and glowy while the skin is always a muted/dark tone of any colour. Insides and skin do not necessarily have to match.
And bottom left is just the ever-famous If I fits, I sits.
They look alien, they have no eyes, they have different body shapes, but they're still cats. Stubborn, silly, nutty cats. Also prone to zoomies. They're masters at pretending shit didn't happen too.
Lore time!
Shadowcats are the evolved versions of the cats the Interlopers brought with them after they were banished to the Twilight Realm. I like to imagine there are two types of creatures in the Twilight Realm... those that evolved from animals brought, and those who are native. I think hybridizations and selective breeding happened here and there, granting all of these creatures an alien look, regardless of origin.
Anyway, Shadowcats evolved to be hairless, somehow the genes tied to better survivability in the Twilight Realm brought hairlessness with them. They at some point lost their fur and are wrinkly bundles of warm skin. The skin is thicker and tougher than that of real life Sphynx cats though, and they don't get cold fast, nor do they need the care the breed does.
Cats have reflective eyes that are great for natural light sources, I think since the Twilight Realm has no natural light sources, they devolved the eyes. They were useless there, and the cats evolved their hearing, smell and touch instead. Hence the large ears and long whiskers.
And since it's a twilight creature, it needs some glowy spot somewhere, and I thought the insides of the mouths would be a fun spot, since there are no eyes to turn glowy. Maybe they use it to put their prey into trance? Or maybe it's just there? I don't know how many creatures, besides the Twili themselves, have functional sight. Shadow Kargaroks certainly don't seem to have eyes.
The upload Garnet shows an example of a glowy mouth, since I couldn't show that in a sketch.
I like to think that there are mutations and variants. There are Sols that are said to be the Light World's light or something, so Shadowcats that live in places with a strong Sol presence may have eyes, some functional, some barely. Those would be lighter in colour and lack glowing mouths. Those shadowcats would resemble regular cats the most.
Besides that one, genes for fur haven't died out yet. Variants with fur exist. And like regular cats, there are bound to be crazy cat ladies and cat breeders who focus on certain genes and appearances. I do think furred variants would be the most expensive to buy since it'd be hard to breed one. Survival genes are tied to hairlessness after all, so it'd be like the Scottish Fold with wrong pairs leading to a lot of stillborns and genetical issues.
The fur would not serve a purpose, and probably soft and silky to the touch, as it does not function to keep the creature warm or provide protection. Chinchilla-soft maybe? So soft you can barely register there's fur. They'd shimmer in light and that iridescence makes them so sought after.
Other mutations/variants Twili may breed for: Short limbs, short/no tails, half-folded ears, curled ears, conjoined ears, eyes (around Sol places), polydactylism (extra toes), split-tails, twin-tails, lighter/brighter colours, light-world skin patterns (spotted, tabby, point, etc), glowing runes, smaller and larger sizes, long fangs and unsheathable claws. I plan to draw all the variants one day.
I'd like to share more lore, but this is about it of what I have so far. Oh, right, they're carnivores and live off rodents and other small pests.

Haha thank you so much! I had fun conceptualizing these alien-looking kitties.
I tend to go egyptian when drawing sphynxes, because I just cannot let go of the connection between Sphynx and Egypt lol. X'D
They come in any colour, darker being more common than lighter, so I'd say black ones exist and be more common than white ones. Black ones with bright markings would exist, but the patterns do not glow among em. Unless they're wounded, or cursed.
Fix a Mirror of Twilight, go through it, ask the nearest Twili for a local breeder and there you'll be able to get one for your apartment. <3
