I've never done photo-stacking or HDR.. I know what they are just never have attempted it.

Be happy to talk about them and the easy way to do them but if your shots continue like that one you don't need either one except to broaden your experience.Β Β
Now prowling the badlands is special and your photo captures the wild nature of the area perfectly.

You nailed the exposure in Badlands.
HDR is really nothing more than bracketing exposure and combining the shots so that the highlights and shadows have detail.Β Some cameras can do it in camera.Β For others you get the shots and combine them in the software.Β Of course it can be over used but it can bring a bit of pop to a shot.
Now focus stacking is similar but it uses multiple shots with different parts in focus and then masks out everything that is out of focus and combines the shots to give a tremendous depth of field.Β Β
Β This shot was a combination of I believe 11 frames.Β I used a focus rack for this one and started with the back ruler and worked forward.
Β This shot was 16 frames.
It is seen extensively in macro work which both of these are.Β I use Affinity Photo as it is quick and easy.Β There is a process with Lightroom and Photoshop.Β In Affinity I select the frames to be included and the software does all the masking and puts them together.Β Β
In landscape photography the process is similar.Β Take a shot with the focus close in, usually on something to catch the eye.Β Take a middle shot and take the long shot.Β Back in the software combine the three and flatten.Β It gives a tremendous depth of focus.Β
There is an awesome shotΒ of the moon on Quora.Β It was done with a focus stack of 360 frames.Β The detail is unbelievable.Β Of course your final image gets really big too.Β Β

Awesome, that looks great. I'll definitely look into it and see the way to do it in lightroom and photoshop and go with whatever one seems easier (to me). Guess it's something I will play around with in the next few months
Seems like it would take up a lot of room if you shot in RAW.. But I guess we will see
