no real reason, I just had an idea for drawing it like that in my head that I wanted to do.

Looks great - love the idea and how there is some different colours in the legs for definition or muscle/lava cracking.

Initially on inspection the lighting and colors are very nice. I'd change nothing about the color scheme. Overall concept is really strong, so your on target. The biggest issue with this piece is the lack of texture/definition and a dynamic draw which would add life to this guy. The biggest detractors for me on this guy are the lack of textures and definition. For example, on the plating and scales there really needs to be some sort of texture that would add some depth. As it stands now, the lack of texturing makes the scales and plates look flat. The same could be said about definition, where things like to forelegs are difficult to tell apart because of the use of similar shades without adding contrast for diffinition. This guy would be improved with a pose that would be more dynamic, something like a sprint or something that gives it movement. Overall great work. I wouldn't change the basic idea at all as its a superb creature. Just consider adding some texture and more diffinition and you'll be leagues ahead!
