Because obviously I wasn't gonna stop at one parrot... I bought the pattern, it would be a waste not to try and tweak it some more. Nothing to do with procrastination at all.

Scarlet macaws are similar size as blue-and-yellow macaws, but they have the longest tail compared to body size (funny enough, I must have sewn the tail lower on this bird because it is indeed longer than its friend's...) Unlike the bigger red-and-green macaws, they have white face without red lines, and their wing coverts are yellow though might also contain some green. Apparently, they must be one of the more complicated macaws, at least all other breeds I looked up on a site were described as gentle and sweet while scarlets were characterized as boisterous. But my baby is super quiet and friendly.

I also learned that most macaw species can interbreed, producing really funky looking hybrids... if I get a time-turner or a TARDIS, I'll crochet them all.

For August 2014 contest - large parrots are beautiful animals but (unless they are crocheted ) they are no easy pets, and they also have very long lifespans, which means many of them end up in shelters.
