The chickens are around because the basilisk fears them so they are secret weapons of this group. The halfling has been cursed with some kind of condition, dreaming about eyes. The wizard was blinded by the gaze of the basilisk which is why he is turned the wrong way around. The wolfman is fearstricken by the baislisk glare, literally petrofied.
