You have a real nerve to come to one of my pictures and accuse me of copying 'Mewtwomoon' here.
Mewtwomoon is 13. I am 22. I've been on deviantart for a very long time, and I started drawing Mewtwo LONG before she did. So, for you to come along and accuse me of copying her is just beyond ridiculous. I can see where Vaporeon and Psylady are coming from, but I never said myself nor did I ever see how she's copying me. Her lineart and cell shading is similar but she does not copy me.
So, do not drag me into this. I'm honestly fed up to a point now with people dragging me into pointless arguments like this. I've just spent months trying to recuperate from another terrible fandom, I DON'T NEED THIS. If she wants to draw Mewtwo then let her. If she wants to draw similar to me then let her. I don't jump in and accuse people of copying unless I know for SURE they are and I have my facts straight.
So, get your own damn facts straight before you jump ahead and try to start a war. Believe me, nothing pisses me off more considering the amount of art I've had copied and stolen from ME. If Psylady and Vaporeon think that then let them; everybody is titled to an opinion. I'm sick to death of being blamed and pulled into things.

Your style might look like someone else's but you'll likely branch off of it once you become more comfortable and more developed in your art. At your age, you're excellent and will easily exceed your elders in a short span time just as long as you're willing to push it (which looks like you are).
As for the criticism, what you're doing now is a show of a good artist with a strong mentality. Earlier, it's a sign of weakness. We all get criticism for every thing under the sun. If you wish to eventually develop to a professional level, it will be a constant thing to overcome. In the end, you saved face. Hope that you stay and continue to grow artistically.

Nice to see a Mewtwo/Ai picture every once in a while. Your linearts are pretty good.
Now that beeing said, its sort of obvious from whom you are inspired when its up to the coloring. I mean even the linearts and the textures. They look completly the same. Even when it looks nice, you should consider changing the style, since noone wants to be a copcat of someone else.

Look, there are about millions fans of Mewtwo around the web. And they almost all draw him. And when millions of people draw the same character, it's normal that drawings may seem very similar to each other. There are about half million drawings of Mewtwo. Half of them probably are just jokes or crappy drawings. So there are about 200,000 possibilities of awesome drawings. I think it's obvious that some styles can seem very similar. After all Mewtwo is always the same character. There are not infinite ways to draw him. Or maybe there are, but with 430,000 drawings of Mewtwo there just must be drawings that seems similar between each other. But this doesn't mean that someone is just copying.
But I know very well this artist, and her greatest passion is drawing Mewtwo. With her own style, not copying anyone else. Maybe you don't realize it, but this was very mean from your side, at least to her, whose greatest passion is this character...
And to realize that people think that you are just copying someone else...well...it kinda hurts, especially when you put all yourself into drawing this character...
Sorry for this long and akward comment, but she's my friend, and I felt the need of defending her individuality and honor.

Sorry but i am pointing out the obvious. You can't deny the fact that the approach and the way how she treats the picture looks exact the same like metros. And if i was her i would feel offended, since in this extent she should credit her.
Nice that you defend your friend, but actually this wasn't a attack against her. She has the potential to develop her own style as artist, and coping somemone else isn't a good way to start with.

Well, it seems like they both use the same program. They use the same subject. The same colours. And they use poses. There aren't a lot of poses that would fit Mewtwo...
It's true, it may seem like she copied Metros, but she just drew this with an image in her mind. She didn't remember it was from Metros that pose, but she didn't want to copy. She just used a style similar to Metros'. But this is her own style. And who cares if it's similar to another person's style. She is a correct person, and she does not copy.
Otherwise, thousands of people would just "copy" Ken Sugimori.
What I meant to say...that even if their styles are similar...this is already her own style. And she didn't copy. She just drew as she wished, and it came out like this. Sometimes this happens...
And I'm defending her because she's a dear friends...and drawing Mewtwo is one of the things she most cares about. I don't want her to get hurt from people saying she's "copying someone's style". That is all.

I know that she draws the poses herself and yeah using the same programs can result in similar results. I guess as long as metro doesn't mind its fine.

Yeah, I bet it's not, but Metros is about 10 years older than this artist...this artist had to start from something, looking at Mewtwo's pictures, and maybe she found Metros'...so she started drawing her favourite character. Using Photoshop.
What you say may be right, but it's just because she started later than Metros...so she has to struggle to show she isn't copying when she draws.
But still, when many people draw the same character it's obvious that sometimes there may be similar styles...
I know it's not a good start, but the style they use, cell shading is very common. This artist just has to make her way here in dA to show she doesn't copy...
But please, don't call her a "copyer". She's a dear friend to me, and I will defend her, if I need to. Also because, although probably you don't believe me, but I swear she doen't not copy.

"Copier", not "Copyer" which isn't a word. And I didn't use it either with the proper spelling or the butchered variety. My default is either "Tracers", "Stealers" or "Imitators" by definition. Tracers literally trace line work, or heavily reference the same lines and poses of an existing image. Stealers usually just upright jack an entire image, whether the original, manipulated, or traced down to the finest detail. Then the imitators are more like MewtwoMoon here, who probably were inspired by someone else and essentially imitated, or mimicked.

Can't copyright style (if anyone else reads this and doesn't believe me, go look it up. Technique/style both fall in the can't copyright category), but going about an approach that essentially places one in another person's shadow can bring into question the artist's character. Are they afraid to explore new ideas? Are they attempting to mooch off the popular style of someone else (as a way to flatter, as a way to become more noticed, et cetera)?

I don't think she's afraid. But she's young, and she started with this style. She felt like it fits her, and she continued using it, just because she liked it, and she felt the need and the pleasure to do it. I don't think she's afraid to explore new ideas, but I think she considers this style as the one that fits better for her. At least for now, but as I said she's about 10 years younger than Metros, she will find her own style, maybe. But personally I love this style, and I don't care if more persons share it.

Here everyone should be free to draw as he/she wants. The only wrong thing to do is saving others' images and uploading them as yours. But besides that, even if your style resembles someone else, you should be free to draw as you want, without people saying that you just copy...

Exposure. More curtailed art classes in later schooling years. The question closer to university age of whether to pursue art or something else. Working age and income leading to capacity to buy more tools.
