Description
STORY (648 words)Naija had been at Emerald Wings Stables for two days now, standing in a clean box, just nervously eating some hay every day. The boxes next to her were empty most of the time, they were either training or enjoying the sun outside. Naija sighed. She was pretty bored, it was warm outside and sne was still tired of the long ride from Colderra to Norway.
She shuffeled backwards when she heard footsteps; she wasn't in the mood for company right now. A red haired girl with greenish eyes put a halter on her head and tried to lead hee outside. Naija stood still in the corner, too frightened to move. "C'mon Naija, don't you wanna play outside?" The mare snorted. She didn't play anymore, that time had passed long ago. No, playing was for foals. If all those other horses still played in their free time, she knew she'd never like it here. I am staying here, she insisted. Erin tried to lead her out of the box. "Please, Naija..." But Naija just stared at her. "There's fresh grass, and a forest..." Erin said wiggeling her eyebrows. Naija moved her right frontleg, but stopped with that. "And there's sun, and a lake..." Erin continued. Naija sighed, she had no choice. Silently she followed Erin to the open field, where Erin put her halter off and just walked away. Naija looked around her. All horses were outside, the most running after each other, or playfully fighting. Naija pulled up her nose as two foals almost bumped into her while playing.
She decided to find a less crowded placd and walked to the big forest in front of her. Naija heard some birds whistle as she was passing by. When she found an open space she looked around to make sure no one was there before she started eating.
She started chopping long strays of grass, which where still a bit wet of the rain that had fallen the previous days.
The sun was at his highest point when she heard something moving in the bushes. She turned around in a reflex and saw a bay horse with blue stripes scattered over her coat approaching her. The horse was about five centimetres smaller than her, but she looked like she was one or two years older. Naija followed every movement the other mare made, as Raindrop came closer and closer. A few metres away from Naija, the mare started grazing. Naija slowly lowered her head too, but never keeping her eyes of the bay horse. After a while they were both peacefully grazing. The prescence of the other horse was calming, Naija thought. At least she knew what peacefull was. The bay's head shot up and her ears were pointed forward, the mare had definitely heard something that Naija hadn't. She turned her head and looked at Naija. "We need to get back to the stables, our food is ready." Naija followed without saying anything. It was pretty late already, the sun had almost dissapeared behind the horizon. The red-head and the black haired girl lead every horse one by one to their box. Naija and the bay mare were the only two left now. The red-head slowly walked to Naija and put on the same halter she had worn that morning. She could see the mare getting a halter put on her head by the black haired girl in the corner of her eye.
They walked back to the stables, the two girls happily chatting. Naija got put in the box next to the bay mare. The girls put of the halters and gave the two mares their food.
When they left, the bay mare turned her head in Naija's direction. "My name's Raindrop, by the way."
"Naija." Naija said shortly.
"Nice to meet you, Naija. Welcome to Emerald Wings Stables." Raindrop neighed with her ears pointed forward.
