Description
Thought I'd make a stamp about coyotes, because personally, I think they are cooler than wolves. Wolves are just overrated these days...Don't get me wrong, I love wolves as well, but I just think coyotes are badass, and they don't get nearly enough attention.
I mean sure, they can be pests, but they can adapt to almost every environment, they can be just as gorgeous as wolves, especially those with black or orange/reddish coats, and their huge ears are adorable. Not to mention they're extremely intelligent and cunning.
There is a reason, afterall, that they're doing so well these days when other animals' populations are dwindling.
(The photograph I got off of google.)

I agree completely. I've seen and heard a few coyotes in areas around where I live. They're pretty cool.

I like both, but coyotes tend to be smarter than wolves and I'm a brains kind of guy.

Proof is in the governmental campaign to eliminate all predators back in the late 1800s-early 1900s. Who survived that slaughter? Coyotes.

Most of it's anecdotal although some of it is blatantly observable. Hanging around hunters and having been a farm type kid myself, coyotes are far harder to trap, lure, and kill compared to wolves who aren't as keen on observing or trying to go near humans.
Out of all the animals that were able to disable traps and even get out of them, coyotes were the main ones who were able to do it. Coyote tracks would be near leg traps but the traps would be disabled via sticks or other items but not the coyote itself with the coyote tracks literally being a foot away from the actual device. Snares would be undone and they would still steal livestock regardless of all these measures more often than not. Coyote calls are hard to pull off in terms of attracting them as well.
We don't have wolves where I live but from friends and farmers I know further north they are far easier to trap, hunt, and kill than coyotes and foxes. But like I said, I think coyotes and foxes (being forest or urban animals) are mentally wired to be more curious and observe things they don't understand while wolves tend to stay away from unfamiliar things that they feel would be a threat. In the long run, this is a detriment to wolves in some respects.

Aha. That is mighty convincing, and I thank you for the lengthy response.
Me being me, I pretty much like any animal that I like regardless of intelligence. I mean, I like fish, and most of them aren't very bright, right? xD Though I could be wrong. I think I'm just a fan of anything that appeals to my interests, i.e. fluffy, cute, neat, fascinating to watch, etc. I can't say I take intelligence into account because, as far as I know, they're all smart enough to stay alive as a species (for the most part) and that's good enough for me. 8)
I apologize for the ridiculous amount of smilies in that message.

Oh I like all types of animals. In fact, one of my favorite animals, the weevil - isn't that intelligent... but I'll be damned if it's not adorable!
My favorite animals are that way either based on personality or looks. But I'm not one for a lot of fluff and if I do like based on visual appearances its normally based on odd attributes. Boars, coyotes, hares, pit bulls, hyenas, weevils, madagascan roaches, octopi, are some of my favorite animals.

I agree on all points. And there are always animals you meet, or see, that surprise you, and then you're all "NEW FAVORITE ANIMAL!" At least, I have that often, bwuahaha.

Coyotes are kinda smart I think. Here all say, the fox is the smart one and the wolf the huge strong dumbass maybe the coyotes are kinda like jacals and foxes.
You see how good they can survive, especially there where wolves are gone, they grow very big and seem to be like wolves somehow. They know how to take their oportunity!

It is said that by the next Ice Age, wolves will go extinct, and coyotes will be "the next wolves".

Your comment made me think of that anime Wolf's Rain, and how the show would have eighty billion times cooler if the main canine cast were coyotes instead of wolves. Coyotes are always portrayed as cunning, determined tricksters with magical powers in the legends, so coyotes surviving near extinction, creating humankind, and disguising themselves as humans would have made so much more sense than wolves doing those things.
Then again, it's Japan, and they're pretty obsessed with wolves when it comes to anime. And 'Wolf's Rain' has a much better ring to it than 'Coyote's Rain.'

well, lets not get too bad here, wolves are pretty damn smart. Their whole pack system is so facinating and wonderfull. Especially when humans act like wolves and actually become one with the pack
I do believe coyotes are smarter than wolves, don't get me wrong, I'm not a wolf-aboo (I know my username sounds like it but hmmmph.) but don't put the wolves so low. xD

Yeah, but with all the wolfaboos and people out there trying to preserve the wolf populations now, who knows what the hell will happen to them in the future.

Extinct in the Wild perhaps. When the Ice Age happens, there's not much that we may be able to stop.

I'm not sure where I heard it, actually, but just because of the "patterns" (for lack of better term). Dire wolves were the "wolves" of their reign, then they went extinct in the last Ice Age, and the wolves and coyotes survived it. Before them it was the Bone-crushing dogs, and the Dire wolves and wolves survived that. I can't remember what other reasons they had for suggesting it but they simply said that the wolf probably wouldn't survive this next Ice Age and that the coyote would survive it, with another wolf-like creature evolving to fit the coyote's niche (probably referring to the "red wolf"?)

Coyotes are more versatile than wolves and seem to have no problem coexisting with strange species unlike wolves who shy away and therefore need more territory without humans. Which is another reason why wolves are pussies and foxes and coyotes are more badass. Those two species just adapt better.
