When dr. fate retired superman failed to convince him to continue the fight but did convince him to train another to take his place if he would find the student. Superman picked john henry irons. Fate and irons went into a room similar to the hyperbolic time chamber (from DBZ) and stayed there for over a month. When they emerged irons used magic to enhance the suite he had been working on and became the here destiny.
