what program did you use? You put a lot of amazing detail into your design.

Aaaaah I see. I have a SolidWorks full suite that can do photo renders like this, however it's not really meant for graphics. It's meant for drafting and engineering design where you can create photo renders to put in a presentation to your boss or a company prior to making a prototype. Still 3D and if you have a decently powerful computer you can do some real nice designs like this one. I was actually thinking about designing my fiance's wedding ring using SolidWorks this summer. Any tips?

I just checked out the solidworks website. That program looks pretty awesome! I kind of want it myself now haha. I'm sure now after seeing their promo video, you could easily create a piece of jewelry. I'm not sure if they have provided gemstone type 3D models, but those are probably available online somewhere.
I definitely recommend designing your own ring, it will gain many compliments. Also, it will be one of a kind! I would pick out what kind of stone(s) you want and what sizes first, then design around that. If you need someone to make it for you, I also do custom jewelry fabrication. You can use stuller.com for stone selection if you need ideas. They also have mountings you could look at too.

Thanks! I'll keep you in mind, however I will probably use a local place in California to make it. For the stones, I already have several diamonds that are from her grandmother's earings and her mother's engagement ring that I will be using. I might have to buy a couple extra of a similar size to the earring rocks, but for the most part I have stones to design around already. It will wait until this summer as I'm taking 17 credits with two projects at the moment (I'm a mechanical engineering student). I'll probably go as far as building my own gemstone models as well. I bookmarked the site you recommended, and I really appreciate the tips!

seccondly: watch his gallery, their work are not bad at all, I'm sure he can live without your advices about rendering.

Plus, I've had a DD in the past so it's not like I've never been noticed for anything

The-Terminal-Show In reply to pyrohmstr [2011-04-30 06:21:27 +0000 UTC]

This is true.

Oh, well that's better then. It always bothers me when I see better things, more effort, higher quality, concept, etc that are not chosen. Even when I try suggesting sometimes. No luck. |:

pyrohmstr In reply to The-Terminal-Show [2011-04-30 06:40:46 +0000 UTC]

try suggesting more stuff? When I talked to the GD back in the day she would always say she didn't have anything for that day and often just asked if I had a suggestion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Terminal-Show In reply to pyrohmstr [2011-04-30 06:45:35 +0000 UTC]

I guess I will. Only one piece I've suggested has made it. But it's usually because the artist has had one recently. Ah well, I'll have to dig even deeper.

Falconsong In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-04-30 05:21:39 +0000 UTC]

It's a good render (I have seen better but this one is pretty nice) but I'm rather confused for several reasons:
-Why is this in artisan crafts and not under Digital art? This is a render of a real ring. If the Deviant made the real ring then a photo of the real ring or a side by side comparison with the preliminary render would be more fitting in this category.
-Why is the Deviant selling this ring and others on etsy but has given NO photos of the actual product for purchase? There only renderings of the ring in the store, which strikes me as a potential buyer as very fishy. No matter how good a computer rendering will always be slightly different from an actual product, sometimes vastly different (especially in the case of the music note ring on there, which is not a very good render), and having no photos of the real product... well...

ayeshoo123 In reply to Allendra3 [2011-04-30 08:11:19 +0000 UTC]

This isn't my style. Besides, I know many people who can render well, not everyone can use it creatively. This is NOT creative. Perhaps the most boring thing I've seen on the planet. DD's aren't given for how hard someone worked, they're given for how original the idea was.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

lupusk9 In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-05-08 02:11:58 +0000 UTC]

You can't say something is NOT creative just because you don't like it. This may not be an award winning best seller, but you're also not the creativity police. I don't necessarily like this design myself but I appreciate that someone felt it deserved a DD. I Have much better renders since this one as it was one of my first designs on the computer. I've since improved my skills. You don't have to hate.

ayeshoo123 In reply to lupusk9 [2011-05-08 10:00:06 +0000 UTC]

Omg it's just that some other DDs are very good compared to this xc I'm not hating.

Allendra3 In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-04-30 17:43:41 +0000 UTC]

The most boring thing you've seen on the planet? lol Seriously? That's a bit melodramatic don't you think.

Ah, well. It's your personal opinion. Just thought I should point out that it *is* your *personal* opinion, and that it's rather rude of you to presume you can judge what is worthy of a DD or not.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ayeshoo123 In reply to Allendra3 [2011-05-01 06:47:21 +0000 UTC]

Lolololololol xD you're right actually it is xD haha that made me lol xD
But um, see, if everyone will get a DD for every good picture then it won't be so special anymore!
I mean, think about it, they're SO SO many amazing artists in DA, but it really counts HOW you use your talent, and put it out on paper, y'know?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Allendra3 In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-05-01 15:18:03 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. DD's are chosen because people suggest them thinking they deserve this feature, and usually quite a few people suggest one. And then of course you have the GM who gets hundreds of suggestions every day who goes through them and decides who's the best. Naturally you're going to have people who disagree. If we all had the same opinion, life would be pretty boring. But what really is ridiculous is when people yell at the suggester, the GM, and the artist saying how this is so undeserving of a DD. You'd think the person got a Noble Prize or something the way they carry on. I mean, my gosh, it's just a website. If you don't like it, deal with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ayeshoo123 In reply to Allendra3 [2011-05-02 15:28:40 +0000 UTC]

I am dealing with it, dear! saying that I think it is not deserving of one, and as you said IT IS my opinion, isn't a crime either!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Allendra3 In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-05-02 15:48:58 +0000 UTC]

I meant dealing with it in a positive way. And no, it's not a crime, but it is against DA regulations.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Allendra3 In reply to ayeshoo123 [2011-05-02 16:09:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, you didn't clarify that. And besides, [link] states that "A Daily Deviation is intended to give an artist a chance to be seen by a large portion of the community and as not everyone has the same tastes, it is obvious that you may not appreciate every piece that is selected as a daily deviation.

If you have a problem with a particular Daily Deviation feature, do NOT leave your disapproval among the other comments on the piece. It is disrespectful to the artist featured, the person who chose it and/or the person that suggested it.

If you absolutely must voice your disapproval of a selected feature, feel free to note $Moonbeam13 however, unless the image violates policy in some way, it is highly unlikely it will be removed."
