Description Couldn't really say what I like about this shot. Just something about the lighting I think. Can't even remember where it was but I remember there was a lot of spiders through that tunnel.

But this is definitely the kind of thing you don't want to see when you go down to your basement in the middle of the night.

I live in Australia. We don't have basements. They would just fill up with spiders and snakes anyway.

Ah, so true. I'd wondered about that. Is that pretty much across the country? Or are there parts where basements are built? I only ask because I'm quite certain many northern US states have basements, but the southern states don't...and neither do the earthquake states.

Actually, the west coast does tend to have both basements and earthquakes. Not every house, of course, but there are plenty. I used to live in a basement apartment in Seattle just a couple blocks from the water, too. A quake probably would've killed us in that apt, but at least tsunamis are unlikely in the city thanks to the geometry of our local faults. (Geologist can't resist commenting on quake-related conversation, sorry!)

Aussie homes are nice, they tend to sprawl. So much land, so little water! My husband's house had a particularly prolific white-tail spider year when I was there, so I can imagine basements would be unpopular. I'm just happy I never saw a huntsman.

I don't recognize the pretty place in the screenshot and I think that means I need to play more.

I think it's California that tends to have fewer basements. Just like Florida has a lot of flat roofed homes because of lack of snow.

I'm actually not sure to be honest but I've been in houses with basements about 3 times in my entire life so I'm assuming they aren't common here lol

I miss basements to be honest. We don't have them up here in the arctic either. They drill into the bedrock and the houses are on stilts.
