"Hello, I am Dr. Ponza," the young man adjusts his glasses as he speaks, "I do not know the circumstances as to how you wound up at these facilities. Maybe you volunteered, maybe somebody volunteered you, maybe you were sentenced to come here for some crime, maybe you were just chosen randomly off the street. Regardless of how you wound up here, you are indeed here now, and that's what really matters. You shall be one of many test subjects in what has come to be known as the Kormus project." He pauses, grabbing a stack of manila envelopes and setting them out on the table you're sitting at. Each one labeled with a number 1 to 7. "Consider this your first test," he explains as he steps back. "One of these envelopes has further information on the project. Another has information on how one can go about releasing themselves from this facility. Yet another will award you with commodities that most other subjects would not be allowed to have. Another punishes you. And the others may be blank, or hide a secret I will not even hint at." You can see he's holding back a smirk as you study the envelopes in front of you. "Go on ahead, take your pick..."

-----

As opposed to my normal roleplay prompts where I have several different prompts to choose from, this is a singular, story driven prompt. However, the way it is designed allows for things to be more open ended and hopefully unique. The Kormus Project can be anything from making military super soldiers, trying to get to another dimension, growing kaiju, making humans into AI, anything! You can also leave it up to me and make it so that you're going in just as blind as your character. It leaves things open in terms of what transformation happens. As you can see, this is a prompt more focused on one main character than two, meaning I will be playing most of the side characters. There may be cases where you'll play a character or two that isn't your character, but other than that, it'll mostly be me leading the story, whatever story comes up. Now, for ideas where you eventually leave the facility, the structure of sharing roles may become more balanced, especially if you go with another test subject. Length of the roleplay will vary, it can either be rather short or a long one. It all just depends!

What do you have to do to get into this roleplay? Well, fill out this nifty little form of course!

Character Name:
Brief Description of Character: (if you're playing yourself and we rp frequently, we can skip this)
Preferred Transformation:
Preferred Trigger: (what kind of testing causes the transformation)
Preferred Side Effects:
Envelope Number: (yes, the effects are all already predetermined for this
Not even going to hide a little proof of reading in the prompt this time, so don't worry about that! Now, my rules have always been pretty lax, but one rule that I will especially enforce for this one is post quality. If I'm going to be running this story, I don't want really short responses all the time, give me something to work off of! You can have a short one here or there, but on average you should be aiming for at least a sentence or two. And no "*I run down the stairs*", paragraph style only.

Hope that we have some fun testing, and remember to choose wisely!

He nods. "a rational response, and a good way to get your way out of testing a drug with a 77% mortality rate." He says that so nonchalantly, as if such a horrid thing is not only acceptable, but exactly what he was planning to do with you if you had agreed to a 'hasty testing'! He doesn't strike you as the type who makes jokes, this is very serious to him.

As he rambles off such a statistic I furrow my brown in confusion and have to do a double take as I replay his words in my head.  "77% mortality..." I mutter under my breath until it clicks for real and I realize he's completely serious.  I quickly jump out of the chair and back away from him.  "77% mortality rate?  Are you shitting me?!  What kind of experiment is using something like that on healthy human subjects?!" I shout to him rather horrified and bewildered on how someone could calmly declare such a thing.

He grabs his tablet, pulling something up. "Because this is what the other 33% yields." You see a video of a person solving five Rubix cubes at once, all of them floating in the air around them. "A bit cliche, but the Rubix cube is a good way to test cognition and pattern recognition. The levitation was mostly them being a showoff." It's... astounding to see. There's no obvious visual effects trickery going on.

I watch the tablet video quite skeptically, not quick to believe it by any means but after studying it closely that's either the best CGI of any movie I've seen, or... or it's actually real somehow.  "Wait, you mean to say there's some drug that made that guy into some sort of psychic super genius?!"  I ask, still not quite believing it, but an itch in my mind wondering if it really is possible.

"That's the gist of it yes. But that's an old project mostly. We really can't refine the formula to be any more accurate so we mostly test it on rowdy subjects in hopes of isolating a gene that denotes a higher chance of survival." He takes the tablet back, typing in a few things before setting it aside.

"A-and so what?  You expect me to take the treatment?  Literally rolling the dice as to whether I survive and get superpowers, or assumably die a horrible agonizing death?"  I conclude, getting an idea of what he might want of me and all the secrecy of this place.

"That was for if you decided to take the hasty treatment," he said. "It is by far our quickest procedure."

"I'd much rather not die from whatever it is you're doing here.  Thank you very much!"  I quickly declare, still appalled that's even an option.  "So if not the 'hasty treatment' am I to assume there's some other treatment you have in mind for me while I'm here?"  I inquire uneasily, ideally not wanting any treatment but it's seeming like that won't be an option.

I sigh, and rub my forehead with one hand as I pace about the room.  "Fine then.  If I really have to take part in one of these freaky experiments, what do you have with the lowest mortality rate?"  I ask, not really having much else to go on.  "Or I mean, you keep talking about all these 'projects and experiments' you're working on like I have to choose one, but I don't exactly know what safe or advisable now do I?  What really are my options?  Do I even have a choice?!"

I scoff a bit at his remark, realizing I didn't really have any choice in this all along no matter what he was implying.  "Fine then.  Why don't you come back and get me once you and your associates have settled on what to do with me."  I tell him in resignation as I sit back down and rest my head on the table.

My heart sinks as I hear the door lock behind him, leaving me all alone in this dark, mysterious place.  I sit back up and slowly rise to my feet, starting to stroll around the small room and inspect my surroundings for any sign of where this is exactly.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-17 23:08:57 +0000 UTC]

There's no windows in the room, it's a plain gray area with a single, locked door, the table, a small cot, and a toilet. It's simple, more simple than most prison cells even.

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-17 23:13:32 +0000 UTC]

I fidget uneasily and feel put off just by the sight of it.  It so perfectly brings the thought of a prison cell to mind, and combined with being locked in here it might be.  Growling under my breath I kick the door once in anger before going over and laying on the simple cot to try and relax.  If nothing else, maybe I can sleep and make my time in this awful experience pass even faster.

The metal door rings as you kick it. It kind of hurts, but not majorly so. As you lie down, sleep does eventually, mercifully take you.

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-17 23:19:14 +0000 UTC]

Just a simple cot isn't too comfortable for sleeping on, but then again isn't much worse than my cheap air bed back home.  It's more the open toilet smell that really starts to irk me and the lack of thick warm blankets to cover up with.  But thankfully, after some time even with all the concerns on my mind I manage to drift off asleep for who knows how long...

"Whaaa?"  I mutter as I slowly come back awake.  Normally I'm a pretty sound sleeper, but being in this place has me on edge and sends me jolting awake from the unfamiliar voice.  "What is it now?"  I question it as I sit up in bed, wrapping the sheet around me for warmth.

I groan in disproval, but figure the sooner they finish whatever this 'testing' is the sooner I can get out of here.  I throw the sheet back on my cot and make my way over to the door with a yawn.  "Fine then.  What's the mortality for this one?" I ask joking darkly, not really expecting an answer.

I immediately flinch and jump back as they aim at me with the gun.  "Sheesh!  Careful where you aim that!" I cry in return, holding my hands up and clearly visible while cowering back away briefly.  If they finally stop aiming directly at me, I timidly make my way through the door and walk out wherever they lead me.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 11:50:08 +0000 UTC]

They don't stop aiming it at you however as you meekly push out the door. You're lead down a long series of hallways, all rather uniform for a while. However, the further you get, the more you can see observation windows. One that really catches your attention is what you can only describe as an anthropomorphic dragon in a hospital gown making idle talk with a doctor.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 12:32:20 +0000 UTC]

And so you continue down the halls until you're finally lead into a rather cramped room. You see a chair and a mirror looking at the seat from the side, one you assume is a two way window, and practically nothing else. The size of the room makes you think of a bathroom stall. "Get in and sit down," barks the man with the gun.

I wince as the gunman yells at me, but follow instructions and promptly enter the stall and sit at the chair. I'm much to antsy and nervous to wait patiently, and anxiously fidget in the chair.

I anxiously wait around in the chair, frequently glancing over to the window mirror for any sign of someone watching me from behind it.  I'm starting to get really bad vibes about this whole thing and look over the ceiling and every corner of the room for any possible way to get out of here before they start in on me.

There's only one way out, that locked door. The mirror gives no indication of if anyone is watching or not. As you wait, you notice a soft droning sound resonating through the room.

You aren't quite sure, but the droning hum seems to be coming from all angles. It's getting gradually louder, more commanding of your attention, more... captivating? It's getting hard to focus on means of escape or your own worries, as if there's a bank of fog rolling into your mind.

I keep looking about frantically and get more and more paranoid as the sound continues.  It keeps getting lounder and louder inside my head, despite being the same volume however much that doesn't make sense.  It's everywhere, just echoing about like crazy as I can't even hear anything else.  I try snapping my fingers, but it's like any other sound than the droning is just laggy and distorted.  As my head starts to spin I just lie back in the chair idly staring up at the ceiling still fixated on the annoying sound.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 14:30:37 +0000 UTC]

After what feels like a surreal eternity of staring up at the ceiling you pass out, the sound having completely subdued you. When you awake you're no longer in your clothes from before. You're in a simple hospital gown. There's an ID bracelet on your arm that reads "S-012" along with your date of birth, blood type, and other such information. Your name is not listed.  You're no longer sitting in that small cramped room, but instead you seem to be seated in... a hospital waiting room? Looking around you you see a few other figures. The dragon from earlier is staring down at the ground in silence. A few people are in the room asleep, some are banging on the doors trying to get out. The nurse's station in the center of the room is shuttered, closed off from you. Your ears are still ringing slightly with the sound from before, although it's a subdued noise.

Wearily sitting back up, I hold my hands over my ears and rub the sides of my head as I try to shake off the last bit of that mind-numbing sound.  At observing my new surroundings and apparael I'm quite shocked by it all as I can't remember anything of the past while since hearing that sound back in the cramped closet room and have no clue how I got here now.  I can roughly conclude they must have done something in there to me, at the very least reclothing me and at the worst... well, at least I'm still alive and feel mostly like myself.  If that really was the procedure they meant to preform at least it doesn't seem to have turned out too bad for me.

Upon realizing I'm not alone in here, I try to remain quiet and move slowly as I look around the room, shocked to see the dragon-like person once again and so close this time.  For now I just check myself over, making sure there isn't anything else crazy they managed to do to me while I was out.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 14:49:13 +0000 UTC]

As you look down at yourself, you seem to be mostly yourself. Nothing seems different or out of place yet. Although, you do feel oddly numb, pinching yourself only leads to a slight twinge of sensation. It's as if your nerves are asleep. That's when you notice, upon looking over your arms closer, tons of injection holes! From your count you've been stuck with a needle at least... 40 times? And that's just 20 on each of your arms!

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-18 14:55:39 +0000 UTC]

At seeing my needle hole ridden arms I gasp frightfully and breathe in shudders as I realize what they must have done to me.  I have a pretty notable aversion to needles, so just imagining how many were poked and prodded into me makes me shiver and cringe at how it must have felt and what could possibly be put into my body now.  I whimper and curl up into a ball for comfort, before frightfully looking down under my hospital gown to confirm if there really are more on the rest of me.

It's such a relief to know my whole body isn't covered in the needle marks, but even the amount I do have on my arms still makes me shudder frightfully even if they are numb.  I can't imagine what could possibly require so many injections, but just lie on my cot in a bit of shock figuring I'll probably find out in time enough.

After finally pulling myself back together from the shock of being injected so much, I slowly slide my legs off of the cot and try getting up to walk around.  The dragon person does kinda scare me, but then again he might have some idea as to what's going on or what else is in store for me.

I stumble a bit with my first few steps, having to lean over and grab onto the cot to keep myself upright on my shakey numb legs.  Slowly though, I try to make it upright onto my feet despite my limbs being so numb and stumble out over towards the middle of the room.  I look around to see if anyone else besides the dragon seems to be awake.

There are some people aiming to escape the room, messing with doors and windows. Others are mostly keeping to themselves. Most are still human, but there's a satyr, an anthro unicorn, a white rabbit dressed in Victorian clothes, a fox in a straight jacket.

I stare between all the strange creatures and people in shock, my mouth literally hanging open in shock at a few of them.  I really start to wonder if any of this is real, or I'm still high on some sort of drug they gave me, and yet everything around me seems consistent and I feel conscious, I think, so maybe it really is all real.  It really makes me freaked out as to what they were trying to do to me, but at least I'm still human and not some sort of hybrid animal.  I try to make my way over to one of the people or things messing around with the door to ask what the heck is going on and happened to everyone.

There's a satyr working at the door somewhat frantically. You see they're nude, save for a laurel crown over their head. "C'mon... open dammit!" he grumbles, tugging at the handle. There's not a sign of it budging. He's also wearing a bracelet like you, but you don't see a gown for him.
