"Hello, I am Dr. Ponza," the young man adjusts his glasses as he speaks, "I do not know the circumstances as to how you wound up at these facilities. Maybe you volunteered, maybe somebody volunteered you, maybe you were sentenced to come here for some crime, maybe you were just chosen randomly off the street. Regardless of how you wound up here, you are indeed here now, and that's what really matters. You shall be one of many test subjects in what has come to be known as the Kormus project." He pauses, grabbing a stack of manila envelopes and setting them out on the table you're sitting at. Each one labeled with a number 1 to 7. "Consider this your first test," he explains as he steps back. "One of these envelopes has further information on the project. Another has information on how one can go about releasing themselves from this facility. Yet another will award you with commodities that most other subjects would not be allowed to have. Another punishes you. And the others may be blank, or hide a secret I will not even hint at." You can see he's holding back a smirk as you study the envelopes in front of you. "Go on ahead, take your pick..."

-----

As opposed to my normal roleplay prompts where I have several different prompts to choose from, this is a singular, story driven prompt. However, the way it is designed allows for things to be more open ended and hopefully unique. The Kormus Project can be anything from making military super soldiers, trying to get to another dimension, growing kaiju, making humans into AI, anything! You can also leave it up to me and make it so that you're going in just as blind as your character. It leaves things open in terms of what transformation happens. As you can see, this is a prompt more focused on one main character than two, meaning I will be playing most of the side characters. There may be cases where you'll play a character or two that isn't your character, but other than that, it'll mostly be me leading the story, whatever story comes up. Now, for ideas where you eventually leave the facility, the structure of sharing roles may become more balanced, especially if you go with another test subject. Length of the roleplay will vary, it can either be rather short or a long one. It all just depends!

What do you have to do to get into this roleplay? Well, fill out this nifty little form of course!

Character Name:
Brief Description of Character: (if you're playing yourself and we rp frequently, we can skip this)
Preferred Transformation:
Preferred Trigger: (what kind of testing causes the transformation)
Preferred Side Effects:
Envelope Number: (yes, the effects are all already predetermined for this
Not even going to hide a little proof of reading in the prompt this time, so don't worry about that! Now, my rules have always been pretty lax, but one rule that I will especially enforce for this one is post quality. If I'm going to be running this story, I don't want really short responses all the time, give me something to work off of! You can have a short one here or there, but on average you should be aiming for at least a sentence or two. And no "*I run down the stairs*", paragraph style only.

Hope that we have some fun testing, and remember to choose wisely!

"I've got just as many," he grumbles. "I think they're planning something, grabbed a bunch of random test subjects and dumped 'em in here... Although looking at some of these guys I think I'm lucky..." he gestures over to the anthro fox currently looking around nervously, struggling in his muzzle and straight jacket.

I shiver and feel pretty bad for the fox person all tied up and restrained like that, not sure if it's just to be cruel or for his own good or our protection after whatever the procedure really did.  "Oh god... and to think this is what becomes of the people who actually survive the tests they do."  I comment out loud as I just try to imagine how many people they've scarred for life with their crazy experiments.  "So is this some sort of recovery room they dump people in after their experimenting?  Or, did they really just throw us all together for some other crazy reason?!"  I ask even though he probably doesn't even know the answer himself.

"If it's a recovery room, what did they do to you?" he asks. "I got put in an identical room and I have the same injection sites on my arms."

"I... I don't know. When they bright me into that small room and injected me they said it was time for my experiment, so I thought these injections were it. But if they injected you too after the fact, I have no clue then." I reason with him, before nervously deciding to try and go over to one of the still sleeping patients and seeing if they have injection marks on their arms too.

I quietly leave the person alone to sleep and return to the satyr. "Yeah, seems like everyone has those injection marks then." I confirm to him. "So whatever this is, must be some sort of weird group project. Pretty strange that we're all locked in here together with none of the personnel nearby..."

"Yeah, I'm sure we all would..." I agree with him and look down and sigh.  "Well, they had to bring us all in here somehow, and if the door isn't working there has to be some other entryway." I advise him, going over to the door myself now that it's not being used.  I look along the crack between the door and the doorframe to see if there's any light coming through or alternatively signs as to why it's stuck.

I suggest as a possible next thing to investigate.

After a while more and more of the subjects begin to wake up, each more confused than the last. Many of them are completely new to their new bodies, while some seem alright. In total there seems to be 30 people, 1-15 are all human subjects, 16-30 have all lost their humanity. Instead of any names on any of the bracelets are numbers. Just as some sort of organization begins to settle, the shutters on the nurse's station raise. You see none other than Dr. Ponza from before behind a layer of thick glass. He speaks into a PA.

"You have all been chosen for a specialized experiment. Of the thirty of you in this room, half of you have already experienced just how much Kormus can do to change you, to make the impossible your reality. Some of you have been changed beyond your wildest dreams, some of you have been given new identities, new disorders, new everything. The others of you have not yet tasted what our facility can truly do. However, that may change shortly. Screens on the station light up, revealing chemical formulas. Each and every one of you has been given a cocktail of 40 different injections. Some of them are dormant, some of them are very much active. Without treatment, they will leave you in a state very similar to subject 30, who was a subject while testing these injections. They show you the results of these drugs after just four hours."

That's when your gaze trails to the paranoid looking fox in restraints. You can't see his bracelet, but you've seen most everybody else's. 1-15 are all accounted for... but you've only seen bracelet numbers 16-29. By process of elimination, he's Subject 30.

As the various other subjects wake up I do my best to help and explain things to at least a few of them so we're all on the same page.  After all, it seems good to have some acquaintances here given who knows what they might be planning for the whole group of us.  It does seem rather strange that they mixed together a pretty equal number of still human individuals with those who have already been changed into all sorts of crazy animal and fantasy creatures, but I try not to let that freak me out too much and just stay focused on coordinating people and investigating.

However, it's not long until the shutters on the central nurse's station rise and Dr. Ponza there completely steals away everyone attention with his announcement.  It seems everyone hushly stands around listening to his words in disbelief, outside of a few of the mutated individuals angrily shouting out expletives and insults towards the doctor responsible.  I carefully try to listen in to what he has to say, though quickly grow pale and frightened as he seems to be implying we're all going to go psychotic from these injections in the next few hours unless... well, he doesn't really seem to give us any alternative as of yet.  I do my best not to panic quite yet, and listen in hoping he will further explain how we stop from going crazy like the fox.

"There is however, a way to rectify this," he explains. "It's simple, there is a neutralizing agent you can inject yourself with to avoid any such... unsavory happenings. However, there are only 15 of these neutralizers."

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-18 19:24:24 +0000 UTC]

I give the doctor an expression of disbelief, before looking down and holding my head in my hands agonizingly.  Of course this would be some shitty experiment where only some of the people can survive, and everyone's going to be driven to selfishness and self-preservation to fight one another rather than actually working together and saving everyone.  I groan to myself quietly knowing the whole room's going to go crazy fighting for those injections in only a matter of time, while still listening for him to tell us exactly how he plans us to obtain or earn these 15 out of 30 needed neutralizers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 19:29:01 +0000 UTC]

"The way to earn them is rather simple, any of you could do it, even Subject 30. All you have to do is complete a simple test of common knowledge. The first 15 perfect scores receive the neutralizers. If you fail, you may take it again instantly." he gestures to the nurses station in front of him, holding up a clipboard with an attached pen and then a tablet. "You may take it physically or digitally. Digital scores can be submitted without entering the line, but if you lose your tablet in any way, there's no way to take the test again."

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-18 19:41:56 +0000 UTC]

I look back up towards the doctor rather surprised and baffled by this new means of handing out neutralizers.  It seems we're just supposed to take a silly quiz and answer the questions correctly to get one.  That seems simple enough and luckily shouldn't take anywhere near four hours to complete, but of course that will have to wait to be seen once we actually get to see the questions.  I start to get a bit antsy myself, figuring I might actually have a pretty good shot at succeeding on such a quiz.  Especially if it's multiple choice and we get to know which questions in specific are wrong, as then even if I don't know anything I could easily brute force it.  Listening on further, I hope to hear where we can pick up one of these tablets, and how exactly he expects us to ever lose one.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 19:43:48 +0000 UTC]

He however doesn't mention any methods about loosing a tablet, instead going into a different explanation. "Line up on the left if you wish to use pen and paper, line up on the right if you want a tablet. Tablet users my submit their answers online, pen and paper must get back in line to have theirs graded. Good luck." People are already scrambling towards the nurse's stand.

NebulousSupposition In reply to LupusScriptor [2018-01-18 19:50:36 +0000 UTC]

I don't want to cause a whole riot in here over getting a tablet and fighting for one of the neutralizers, but still rather swiftly make my way over to the line to pick up one of those tablets for answering questions online.  Sure this sort of thing is pretty ruthless and cruel and attempting to bring out the worst selfish side in people, but there's no shame in at least fairly trying to save myself I figure.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 19:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Over half the people go to the tablet line with a few people going for pen and paper. The fox scurries over, being helped out of his straight jacket by the doctor through the small window in the glass. His muzzle is kept on however. By the time you have your tablet in hand, there are at least 10 people already in the middle of their testing.

I anxiously wait in line for one of the tablets and quickly hurry off to my cot upon receiving one.  Sure it was a longer wait, but it should go much faster now once I get down to answering the questions.  I quickly unlock the tablet and try to pull up the questionnaire to get started.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 20:11:24 +0000 UTC]

There are thirty questions in total, each with four options. They range from basic math, to history, to language arts, all sorts of general knowledge stuff. Nothing seems to complicated, at least, not yet. As you reach question fifteen you hear a sharp bang on the ground. Somebody gasp and yells as a scuffle begins. As you look over, you see somebody's tablet has smashed on the ground, far beyond repair.

The math questions don't seem to bad for me at all, although I do seem to have to blindly guess at the guess at most of the history ones.  Being on high alert I jump as I hear the crashing sound and fighting, looking over to realize some of the other prisoners might be losing their cool and starting to fight.  If someone breaks everyone else's tablets, they might be trying to slow the others down so they can finish in time.  Worriedly, I scoot further up onto my cot, making sure to keep my space from anyone else I can see so they don't try to pull anything sketchy.

I try to control my breathing to stay calm and concentrate, moving onwards with the quiz on my own.  I wish I could jump in and try to make a plan to upheave this all and save us all, but I doubt I could get more than a handful of people to listen with all this chaos.  For no all I can really do is attempt the quiz.

I really would like to help them and start to get people working together rather than being at each other's throats, but I'm awfully worried about making my way across the room in all this chaos while I still have my tablet.  I decide I'll finish my first attempt through the questions for now, and then after submitting that go over and see if we can do better together.  At least that's the plan, anyways.

LupusScriptor In reply to NebulousSupposition [2018-01-18 21:46:09 +0000 UTC]

There is always the fringe chance that once you've passed through you're forced out of the room as so the others can continue testing... Or something like that. It's not entirely likely, but as you approach question 22, it's definitely something that comes to mind.

I start to get a bit nervous they might try to pull some sort of stunt at the last minute like that, and so decide maybe it's best to meet up and start working together before things get even worse here.  Holding my tablet snug up to my chest for protection, I carefully try to make my way across the room to meet up with the satyr.

I'm quite relieved and happy to hear my satyr partner managed to finish in time as well.  Although, as the doctor beckons for us to step up to receive our reward injection I'm a tad skeptical and uneasy once again given my dislike of needles and uncertainty as to whether he's even being truthful about the effects of our original injection as well as this one.  However, I can't really afford to risk it and given my arm is still somewhat numb I volunteer for the 'neutralizer' injection before heading to the opposite side of the room as instructed.  "I just sure hope these shots actually work as intended..." I let out a frightened yelp as my chair unextectedly starts pulling me backwards and I nearly fall out if it. As it stops and the wall closes back up behind me I jolt up to my feet looking about frantically as if I'm about to be attacked until I realize it's just a separate room for holding the subjects who have finished. Still though, the way they're being sneaky and secretive about bringing us in here is enough to keep me worried. I nervously say hi to the five or so others in the room, and start looking about for any sign of what they expect to do with us here.

From the looks of it, it's simply a continuation of the waiting room hidden behind a false wall of sorts. The decor and atmosphere is practically identical. The others in the room share your unease. There's a thick fog of tension and worry clouding everything.

After a few glances about it's pretty safe to say there isn't any easy escape options in this part of the room either, and so for now it seems all we can do is wait around until the rest of the subjects finish the quiz and join us, or... or god forbid what's going to happen to the rest of them.  I end up just picking some open space and sitting on the ground next to the wall to wait it all out.
