"Hello, I am Dr. Ponza," the young man adjusts his glasses as he speaks, "I do not know the circumstances as to how you wound up at these facilities. Maybe you volunteered, maybe somebody volunteered you, maybe you were sentenced to come here for some crime, maybe you were just chosen randomly off the street. Regardless of how you wound up here, you are indeed here now, and that's what really matters. You shall be one of many test subjects in what has come to be known as the Kormus project." He pauses, grabbing a stack of manila envelopes and setting them out on the table you're sitting at. Each one labeled with a number 1 to 7. "Consider this your first test," he explains as he steps back. "One of these envelopes has further information on the project. Another has information on how one can go about releasing themselves from this facility. Yet another will award you with commodities that most other subjects would not be allowed to have. Another punishes you. And the others may be blank, or hide a secret I will not even hint at." You can see he's holding back a smirk as you study the envelopes in front of you. "Go on ahead, take your pick..."
-----
As opposed to my normal roleplay prompts where I have several different prompts to choose from, this is a singular, story driven prompt. However, the way it is designed allows for things to be more open ended and hopefully unique. The Kormus Project can be anything from making military super soldiers, trying to get to another dimension, growing kaiju, making humans into AI, anything! You can also leave it up to me and make it so that you're going in just as blind as your character. It leaves things open in terms of what transformation happens. As you can see, this is a prompt more focused on one main character than two, meaning I will be playing most of the side characters. There may be cases where you'll play a character or two that isn't your character, but other than that, it'll mostly be me leading the story, whatever story comes up. Now, for ideas where you eventually leave the facility, the structure of sharing roles may become more balanced, especially if you go with another test subject. Length of the roleplay will vary, it can either be rather short or a long one. It all just depends!
What do you have to do to get into this roleplay? Well, fill out this nifty little form of course!
Character Name:
Brief Description of Character: (if you're playing yourself and we rp frequently, we can skip this)
Preferred Transformation:
Preferred Trigger: (what kind of testing causes the transformation)
Preferred Side Effects:
Envelope Number: (yes, the effects are all already predetermined for this
Not even going to hide a little proof of reading in the prompt this time, so don't worry about that! Now, my rules have always been pretty lax, but one rule that I will especially enforce for this one is post quality. If I'm going to be running this story, I don't want really short responses all the time, give me something to work off of! You can have a short one here or there, but on average you should be aiming for at least a sentence or two. And no "*I run down the stairs*", paragraph style only.
Hope that we have some fun testing, and remember to choose wisely!

"That test was a perfect storm of a stressful situation. A time limit, limited number of victors, very reliant on your own knowledge, a competition element, threats of loosing your mind, people have been driven to kill for less. And, if the fox was really so dangerous, they might have kept him locked up. It's likely it was more worries of self harm. I'll admit, I didn't have much focus before I had started my testing, so I can't say I got a good read on him." she concedes that much to you. She really is working off of a lot less than you would be able to. You can recall that before the testing began the fox looked paranoid and a little jumpy, but he wasn't openly violent at the time. That can change of course, but he was more focused on looking around than trying to break his bindings or attack people. And once his jacket came off he didn't attack anybody while you were testing. You aren't sure what he was doing actually, you never took the time to look over at him during the test. And you can't ask him now...

I look down once again, letting out a heavy sigh as I feel all flustered and worry renewed at accepting what the other testers must have done. "So the test really did drive them to murder... And for what even? Sure the doctor said the fox was an example of what could happen to us mentally, but we don't even know if the serum was real or not. That whole arm injection thing could have just been a farce for show so everyone would resort to such things. After all, if you want to test how far people will go under pressure, why taint your findings with mind-altering drugs when you can fake them instead and get the real reactions?" I propose as I look down at my prodded arms and rub over the injection spots to try and ease up.
It really is astonishing how on point she's been so far at picking out what must have gone down, whereas I can only ramble off possibilities or conspiracy theories being skeptical and uncertain as always. Seeing that she seems to be coming around to her old self, it really is a blessing their mind games weren't too damaging or lasting as far as I could tell. Turning someone so sharp into a quirky storybook character would just be outright cruel, and at least now she's capable of helping us all find a way out of here, at least for however much time we have left all still together.

"That's possible too," she says with a nod and sigh. "Even the best detective can only infer based on the evidence they have, and unless you saw something I didn't, I've got nothing else," she sets her cup down and rubs her temple.

"I mean, I doubt I can prove anything of that sort. It just seems fishy to me. Like, why go through the effort of giving us so many injections in our arms, where we can clearly see and feel all the needle marks and is something we can't ignore. And then in the end, all of those fluids and serums given to us are supposed to be stopped by just a single 'neutralizer' injection, just like that?" I reason out, as my brain starts to get on track trying to find any little scraps of evidence to support my theory. "Or like how all of us were unconscious when we received the original injections! None of us know what they actually gave us. They could have just put a light sedative in the limbs and then done acupuncture for all we know." I ramble off as I scratch my head and try to think of any way we could know it for sure or not.

"It's very likely, they could have included the mentally ill fox as a red herring, a sort of extra reason to rush. Yet at the same time, that brings up the question of what did he inject us with just now? A placebo? Something worse? And then that would mean that if somebody got killed, they would absolutely have done it of their own volition, no drugs to drive them crazy. Ugh.. part of me thinks that going back to Wonderland would make more sense," she jokes dryly.

"Hey now, we can't change what happened to the rest of the group or undo whatever injection we were all given just before." I try to reassure her, really not wanting her to go back to that crazy children's' book experiment even if her sister is still there. "At least the group is much smaller and more manageable now. With fewer people, it's a lot easier to reason with everyone and talk them out of something crazy like that." I try to point out as well, kind of hoping she might stick around for group testing with me and with a few allies like her we can make it through with minimal losses, or at least remaining level-headed and civil.

"Well, yeah... I guess." I admit with an uneasy shrug. "I suppose for me the decision feels the most trivial since I haven't even begun individual experimenting yet. I can either leave and be subjected to some unknown treatment and horrors, or stay here and face some equally unknown experiment, but with others. Just seems like I might as well go for strength in numbers than trying to get through it all alone, if you feel me." I explain to her uneasily as I try to put my reasons into words. "And of course, that's not really considering the offer to be set free for going solo, if that's even truthful. I just feel like I might as well stick around here and give someone else a better chance of being the one to be let out when they've already had to go through such crazy stuff like you did."

"At least for the moment, trying to act on urges of escape now would only wind up leading to disas-"
Her words are cut off by the doctor returning. Looks of confusion pepper the room. After all, there's no way its been an hour! The rabbit checks her watch, her brows furrowed with suspicion. "Fuck..." she grumbles. "How did a whole hour pass...?" Her face scrunches up in deep thought for a moment before scanning the room. In a hushed whisper she leans close to you. "Did everybody have something to eat or drink?" she asks, a mixture of dejection and curiosity on her face. "And is it just me or does the room feel more... lively?" Now that she mentions it, you really had lost track of pretty much everybody else in the room. Now people are moving around, there's obviously 14 people in the room... something that you were sure of before, but weren't really focused on. You only really paid attention to the rabbit for what felt like a few minutes after having your snack.

"Wait, it's already been a whole hour?!" I ask her in disbelief as I look back over to the doctor begrudgingly.
As she asks me about what everyone else ate or drank my expression turns rather uncertain. "I don't know really. I've been busy talking to you. I mean, I figure everyone ate something given what we've been going through and offered the chance." I tell her kinda sorry I didn't know more, but overall I'm just overwhelmed and confused at how we lost so much time. "Something really feels funny about all this..."

"I hope your hour has been a useful one," says the doctor as he looks around. "I would now like to ask you to place your votes. One at a time you will come up and select 'group' or 'individual' on my tablet. Once everyone has voted, I will share the results and we shall go from there." One by one everyone places a vote, you wind up being about the sixth person to be told to vote.

I'm still quite in shock about how quickly time just passed when I swear it was just 15 minutes at most I spend sitting there talking with her, but there's little I can do about it now. Uneasily I watch as the people go up and place their vote with the doctor, hoping there will be enough for group testing but if not I suppose it can't be that much worse being alone.
Rather quickly than expected I get called up to vote, nervously walking up past all the others, tapping on the option for group testing, and then slinking back to my place sitting next to the rabbit. I do start to wonder if they're having us vote in the order we finished, or just at random but start to reason it really doesn't matter.

After all the votes he shows the tablet off to the crowd. It's an 8-6 split in favor of... going back to individual experiments. There's some groans and nervous looks as it becomes obvious that nobody is going to get to group up. This is a lose-lose situation. Those who wanted to group up cannot, and those who were aiming for a way back home now have to be randomly chosen from 14 people not 7 or less!

"Tara," replies the rabbit softly. You can't tell if this is stony resolution or sad acceptance of her fate. Either way one by one people are lead out into the halls, split up in different directions. Somebody you never spoke to before is told that they won the 'escape lottery'. Their eyes light up as they are lead out of the room, never to be seen again most likely. The satyr looks crushed upon seeing this, having to be dragged up from their position on the floor. You too are lead away, down back into your cell. The loneliness is all the more evident now. The only two somewhat friends you had made are gone now, both back to their own twisted experiments. The silence is awful too. Tara's insight is gone now, you've got nobody to bounce ideas off besides the wall. So, hours later when your door opens, you almost get excited. That's when Dr. Ponza walks through the door, carrying his personal tablet.

I nod and flash her a rather weak smile, just hoping I'll be able to see her once again and still recognize her by name. "Well, take good care of your sister. If nothing else at least you've got a lucky rabbit's foot. Two in fact." I joke cheekily in parting as the two of us are soon escorted out back to who knows where at gunpoint. I didn't even get to say anything to the satyr guy again before we were all split up and sent on our way. I don't outright resist being taken away back to a sell, but am sure to drag my feet and walk at a nice slow pace as much as they'll permit me. At least walking through the halls while still fully conscious is helpful, as I start to build up my mental map of where exactly my cell and the group room are in relation to each other.
It feels like forever as I'm back in my cell all alone. If they really did give us all something back there to make time pass faster without us noticing, I figure now I must be coming down off of it and so the minutes alone are feeling like hours. Or maybe it really was hours, there's no real way to say for sure. As the cell door opens part of me gets really excited, thinking someone must have broken out and was coming to let us all out. But no, of course not! It's that doctor again as if he really does handle every single experiment in this place personally. Lazily sitting up on my cot I bitterly stare towards him without saying a word.

"It's time to decide your testing," he says calmly, motioning for you to sit down at your little table. "Based on your performance in the previous trial, somebody higher up has taken interest in you. You'll have a small list of tests to choose from, but only based on their names."
He shows you his tablet with a list of titles:
"Tight Rope"
"LGP2: Alice"
"The Woods"
"FFFP: Induction"

His persistence finally gets to me, as I speak up about my choice. "I mean, all I get to see or know are the titles of the studies, and literally half of them are acronyms! I'm not too fond of heights for tightrope walking, and although camping would be fun the woods just screams horror movie to me. So unless you're under the impression you've already given me mind reading powers somehow, I'm pretty much in the dark for the last three." I explain nonchalantly, before adding in as a bit of a challenge and beckoning to bring the tablet back over, "Of course, I'd be happy to cast my vote again while I have such a luxurious choice of my involuntary fate."

For the first time you can see clear emotion on his face. It's a look you'd expect to see on a kid proudly taking a toy from somebody else on the playground. It's an uncharacteristic showing from the doctor, his mouth upturning in a cocky sneer as he teasingly begins shoving the tablet in his coat pocket. "And here I thought you were going to ignore that one out of fear or worry, but it seems that even giving you the name 'Alice' wasn't enough to clue you in. That or the supervisors were wrong about you hitting it off so well with her and you've already forgotten." There's a tinge of resentment in his voice after that line. Something in that irks him so much that it can rip off his stony mask so easily...

I resort back to my sour and mopey expression, looking away and pretending to ignore him as to not offer any further satisfaction while inside I'm fuming. Deep down, part of me was pretty sure that second one would have had some connection to Tara's group somehow, mentioning Alice of Alice in Wonderland after all. I should be kicking myself for not jumping at the opportunity to get close to Tara once again and try to keep her from going off the deep end with their meddling, but yet given the chance I didn't. So maybe I was scared... Maybe I'm being selfish, as just hearing her describe the sort of ticks and mental conditioning they put her through for some silly fictional reenactment made me not want to be any part of that, instead opting for some unknown unrelated fate I can be blissfully ignorant of for just a little bit longer. His sort of bragging smittenness stings at the fact that my choice is somehow letting Tara down and I wish he would just leave and get busy with my experiment closer, or maybe get in my face a little bit more so I can pin him down on the table and take his gun before he decides to destroy anyone else's life...

Before Ponza can berate you anymore, you hear a soft buzzing from his coat pocket. It cuts him off as he glances over at the sink. He stares at it for a second before muttering a swear and pulling out his phone. "Yes ma'am?" says Ponza, putting back on a dry, stoic face. "No sir, he doesn't want to go, just as I predicted. I told you that my experiment was foolproof, there's no way anybody could-" he trails off, looking down at you. "you know what it proved, I'd hate to go into more detail with the subject listening, might make him upset. Regardless, if we can just get him situated in the test he chose, I can give you a proper follow up study. Not what you suggested." You can see a faint flushness to his face as he speaks to whoever he's talking with. "I don't see him begging to pick anything else, do you?" he whispers.
(Well, not quite a critical fail, but let's just say that Ponza could be having a much better day. Never wanna get a phonecall from your boss while you're in the middle of doing your thing )

At least it's a relief for Ponza's smug tirade to get knocked down a few notches, and shifting in my chair I tilt my head slightly just to listen on his words and conversation. It's also rather insightful to learn even the doctor has some boss or supervisor making sure he stays in line, even if that means he's not the only threat in charge of this place. Although, just as I was grumbling over my decision and possible regrets I take the impression there's some discrepancy with my testing choice as I decide to speak up. "So, do I get to take a look again and change my decision or not?" I ask awfully loudly, just hoping the person on the other end hears and chews out Ponza for it even if I'm still somewhat frightened as to whether I should join the Alice test or not.

The doctor turns to face you, angling himself so that his back is to the sink. His eyes are wide open and he's gritting his teeth, his free hand now clenched in a tight fist. You can hear muffled talking on the other end of the phone. Without a word he sets the phone down, pulling back out his tablet and showing it to you without a word. The same options are showing, your previous choice still clearly highlighted. As he leans in, he finally speaks again, this time in a soft whisper. "I don't know what you're playing at here, but if you care for yourself, you will stop playing at this game. Dr. Ballard will chew you up and spit you out if you go to play her game. You don't know her, you don't care about her, you know that. The option you have picked is a very low intensity one, it's your safest bet coming out of your test in one piece." Ponza straightens up, letting go of the tablet and watching you with eyes almost overflowing with malice.

He inhales sharply before just giving you a nod and snatching up the tablet. "Very well then." You're lead down a series of hallways once more, this time going further than last, this time walking on and on for what seems like forever. This place seems impossibly big as you're lead to a big set of double doors labeled. "The Looking Glass". As you walk in you see a frizzy haired woman in a coat that matches Ponza's sitting atop a countertop. She's got a shit eating grin as you walk in.
"Hey there," she says casually, crossing her legs. "You're the one I've been waiting on! And to think my project might make that arse Ponza eat his own words... ah, how honored I am!" her thick Irish accent comes in clear as day as she greats you. At seeing this project has its own sector and fancy signage and everything I scoff and look rather unamused by the showy nature, but still say nothing and show no sorts of regret while Ponza is still watching. I can't help but grin at her open contempt towards Ponza, but of course soon reason that she is just as responsible as him and even more so for all that's befallen Tara and who knows how many others here. Even as she tries to flatter and impress me with her open friendliness, I just try to start ignoring it and mentally preparing myself for the craziness to come that she will be in charge of instigating. "It's Alan actually, but that's understandable given all the craziness I'm sure is going on around here." I correct her in a tad of cheeky defiance and a facade of politeness. "I've already got my perfect cast of characters, but Wonderland can only really be experienced in its full glory by an Alice. Somebody skeptical, somebody detached from the madness. So, you'll be given just one drug, one that lets you perceive Wonderland, but not any of the identity overwriting or madness inducing drugs. Your goal? Well, that's up to you really." she chuckles a little. "There's no wrong answer really. I try to keep up the polite exchange at first, but at the mention of the white rabbit I visibly wince and reveal a bit of my contempt given my knowledge of what's happened behind the curtain to make such things happen. "So really, all you need me to do is go through your dear project to put it to the test is all? No other requirements you really care about me muddling up in there?" I confirm, rather skeptical that she's just been searching so hard for someone to stay as themselves and run through Wonderland when literally anyone else would prefer this to their fate. "Oh, you'll be changed of course, but that's more physical than mental. Nobody gets to be human in my Wonderland, not even me~" she giggles softly. "These other eggheads like watching from a distance, but there's no fun in that. No, to truly observe my madness, you need to live it. Of course, I'm less mad than the rest of them whenever I'm in there, I still need to play the role of all powerful observer~" She pulls out a tea set from behind her on the counter. She sets it down on a table and begins putting powders in the tea. "What's a good look for Alice~?" she ponders, setting your cup aside as she mixes up hers. "Do you have any ideas Alice~?" she asks with a purr as she sips daintily at her concoction.

Of course, silly me though 'just one drug' implied they wouldn't be throwing others at me to warp my body as well but obviously that would just be too generous of this place, now wouldn't it. I cautiously watch her as she strolls off to the tea set and gets to work, remaining silent and slowly just returning to open defiance without the polite charade as she tries addressing me as Alice. I'm not going to willingly agree to her seeing me as some young girl from the books. Finally, I speak up after an ample length of silence to get my point across. "No need to go crazy with it. Like you said, there's insanity enough in there even without being forced into a different body."

She smiles wide in an almost taunting way. "Oh Alice, there's never enough crazy in my Wonderland. You're just playing the straight man~" You swear you see purple fur growing over her as she begins prepping your tea. "Oh, I do wonder if you'll find what you're looking for, or maybe, just maybe, I'll have a new friend by the end of this~" A feline tail flicks behind her as she sets a cup down in front of you. "Are you ready to go to Wonderland Alice? I suppose you could call this your last chance to back out. Ponza would be oh so happy to hear that~"

I shiver rather uneasily at seeing how she's just changing and growing fur right in front of me and not even batting an eye herself. It really makes me wonder whether she is crazy to have developed something like this and actually enjoy taking part in it herself. At least if there's one small bit of comfort, it's that if she's changed and been to Wonderland before herself, then there really must be some way for the changes to wear off and be undone. Or so it seems highly possible at the very least. Staring at the cup in front of me quite uneasily as I really do consider getting out of here and swapping again just to postpone things if nothing else. No... I won't duck out or flip-flop again, especially when I've already left Ponza on the ropes the last we saw each other, and at least here I actualy have some purpose.
Grabbing the teacup and holding it up in front of me, I uneasily look to her trying to not show my anxiety at knowing or not knowing what's going to happen to me. "For the last time... it's Alan." I tell her with a mix annoyance and solemnness, before chugging down the drug-filled tea mixture just to get it over with. Slamming the empty teacup back down on the table, I put my head down as well already expecting something to happen or overtake me any moment.

The walls seems to melt and mix in a swirl of colors as you begin to lower your head. Ballard has downed another cup of tea, expediting her changes before your eyes. Her bright feline eyes stare you down eager as her outfit shifts before your eyes from a typical labcoat to a Victorian gown. "It's Alice to me dear, and in Wonderland, that's what matters," she purrs, watching you eagerly begin to see the world through the lense of her drugs." This is Wonderland, not any actual place, but the drug. Of course, behind these doors, wonderland exists as a place too. But it wouldn't be anything without the Wonderland drug~" she stands up, running her clawed hands down her gown. "Oh, how I've missed being my true self~ I haven't gotten to be the Cheshire Cat in months!" she's on cloud nine right now, giddier than you could imagine. "Oh, and no, this isn't apart of the illusion of the drug, my tea's chemical cocktail has very real physical results, as you'll soon find out~" You do feel oddly warm as her room shifts to what you can only describe as the inside of a fortune teller's tent. It's almost impressive how vivid these changes are, they feel so real. Your mind will remain intact through this, but it seems not even you are safe from perceiving Wonderland in the way she sees it.

Seeing everything start to swirl and shift all around I start blinking several times and hold my head in my hands as I try to snap out of it, or at least not fall over out of my chair from the dizzying disorienting warping of reality into some other place entirely. Not to mention the swift makeover into Chesire Ballard with her unsettlingly large grin is certainly not comforting in the slightest as I can already feel my heart racing with a bit of panic. With all this happening so swiftly I'm left speechless trying to keep things straight, as I try to just tell myself it's only an illusion and attempt to recall what the layout and appearance of this room actually is for reference. After all, if I'm just madly hallucinating I'm still in the same facility in the same first room I met Ballard in and the door is still right over there. As all the new details slowly start to settle into place with the drug fully in effect, I gradually look about the odd tent we find ourselves in while just trying to remain calm and keep my real world bearings somehow.

It's difficult, but you can still somewhat recognize this as the room you were in before. What you don't recognize however is the soft blue dress you're now in! In the time you spent trying to gather yourself, you completely missed your hospital gown shifting into, well, Alice's dress. Your feet are covered with strange stockings that show your toes, something that will probably make more sense as your body follows your outfit. There aren't any shoes to this new look, but you can feel a ribbon tied to your hair. It's a weird feeling for your still male body to be in a dress, but it's probably the least crazy thing happening right now. The Cheshire Cat giggles wildly as she sits across from you, resting her feline head on her hands as she stares you down. "It was so tough to choose between a mouse, a cat, or a dog~ you're quite mousey, yet curiosity killed the cat, yet again Ponza sure thinks you're a dog~ So I closed my eyes and dumped one in at random!"

"Gah! What the heck!" I exclaim before squirming awkwardly in this funky new dress that appeared out of nowhere. I'm quick to look it all over and tug on the pleated blue bottom to find it feels quite realistic and uncomfortable as I'd expect a pantsless dress to, even as I reason it has to just be an illusion. I glare at the cat with a good deal of flustered contempt at even being forced into the female character's dress of all things, but am quickly unnerved further by her nonchalant description of potential physical changes for me being left up to random chance. "What, like there aren't enough cats around here already?" I retort to her for including that one, just saying anything I can to seem rowdy or confident despite being quite humiliated in this dress with ribbons and all and still awaiting the loss of my humanity as well.
