The axes are made out of insulation foam board, which you can find at just about any hardware store (I buy mine at Home Depot or Lowes). It costs about $30-$35 for a 4x8 foot sheet. A scroll saw would be helpful cutting these out, and I used a regular kitchen knife to carve the details because that was all I had at the time >.>

When you carve the foam it's going to leave all sorts of ugly holes and scratches, so you'll want to sand it down really well and use wood filler (also sold at hardware stores) to fill up all the holes and sand it again once it's dried.

And depending on what you're going to paint it with, the next step is different. If you're planning on using acrylic paints, you can just start painting. I do recommend a clear layer first though (I use mod podge, sold at every craft store) because it will make the paint look smoother. If you're planning on using spray paint (which I did for these), LAYER ON THE MOD PODGE. LIKE, THREE LAYERS AT LEAST. Spray paint dissolves this foam, so if you don't have a thick clear coat underneath it's going to completely ruin it. You can also use mod podge as a shiny clear coat when you've finished painting, or clear spray paint if you're using spray paint.

For the little details on the mic handle I just used regular craft foam, and wire mesh for the actual mic. When you paint the craft foam, definitely put down a clear coat first or your paint will look really dull.

Also, use a wooden dowel to secure the handle to the blade so it doesn't snap in two when you move it around. I made the mistake of not doing that, so it broke and I had to fix it >.>

Hope this helped a little~
