Hi Heidi, Thanks for dropping by again how goes the theatre design? I met one of "your kind" (lol) today at the art store I work at now. wanted to friend her up and get to know what you guys get up to better but manager came out lol

Haha! The theatre work goes well. It must be fun to work at an art store! Theatre designers tend to drift into computer drafted artwork but most of us still need to draw and paint...it is in our blood.

it's a nightmare! there is all this different kinds of paper making my life hell to price at the till. hard to learn. it's fun talking with the customers though

theatre designing sounds really interesting and I'd like to understand the process of what you guys do better eventually as my main thing that i want to do is create stories eventually and it would require me to design things from characters to locations, not too different I'd imagine to theatre in a way. same research sensibilities and such..mayybe? lol but gotta build up my visual library first and paint like a madmen possessed.

Never stop drawing...I went to art school formally for a while...and thats the best advice they gave me, and I could really see improvement if I drew every day/ You're already doing this! Good for you.

Yes, the research is the same, the methods of abstraction and distillation are the same, the difference is I must communicate my ideas to carpenters, welders, painters and more..and the solo artist gets to build his stories himself! So, my communication kind of art is the main artwork we look for in #TheatreArtists...the drawings, knapkin draftings, real draftings, watercolor etc. renderings of a scene, and so on. The final live product, repeated sometimes for more than a year - is the real artwork. Ethereal and temporal, it changes slightly every night depending upon the people engaged in the performance! A production photo alone cannot capture the experience but it does say something about the composition at the moment.

Surely you've studied some art history and architectural history and furniture history? Your personal visual library is probably larger than you know! I'm always looking for good good reference books.  what does your list look like?

haha I'm ashamed to say being self taught I've not bothered to learn art history. Never felt the need. I'm more concerned with technique and being in the present. there is a book on architecture I have I need to read though but it's more to do with the process of building, the thoughts that go in and such. I think I only tend to go into history when I am dealing with research for a project I have in mind.

due to this mentality I also am poorly knowledgeable when It comes to old painters.

just concern myself with the immediate and draw/paint repeatedly is me haha

my list of books are more in the science of seeing area like colours, anatomy, perspective and techniques. when I get my skill and read all I need to read I wish to get back into being a lot more free with what I spend my time doing so will most definitely get into reading up on some history and catching up on my novels.

Okay now that I am calm... haha this came out brilliant. You really captured the coloring here with no lines, just value of color. I find myself being drawn to the hand/glove. The color and shadow you used for the sleeve and the hair is just stunning. Good job once again my friend. I am amazed!! Shared on my facebook
