I've been reading the Silmarillion lately and I've become entirely captivated with it. So of course when something so wonderful as a good book takes hold of me I am prone to make art about it. This is Feanor Greatest of the Noldor Elves, creator of the silmarills (thats what's on his head), leader of the rebellion, and the first elf to ever take the life of another. His name in elvish means spirit of fire. (hence my title.) He's not an entirely evil character just very volitile and subject to manipulation. He is the both the bringer of the greatest of the elven achievments as well as thier greatest shame. So thats a little background on the character. This was a tough one to catagorize, its a watercolor, but I screwed around in photoshop with it quite a bit and didn't feel right putting in the traditional art category.:edit: I did'nt like the contrast in the original, so i made and adjustment and reposted this one about two minutes after the original post. I'm a rather fickle person...

Wait, why haven't I commented on this before? I really like the darkness, the colours and the texture; the athmosphere in general is very good. It's not just a character design, more like a character study. And the eyes! His bright eyes are well captured.

Thanks Joshs, Thats funny though, now that you say he looks decapitated, i see it too! >_< I should'nt have given him that red collared cloak, maybe I'll fix it, the original water color is a lot bigger, this is a very close crop. The red is supposed to look like blood. he was the first elf ever to spill the blood of his own kind. So its supposed to represent that. He's a really interesting character. He's not entirely evil, but he's pretty dark and twisted.

Holly! This is comin along! Altho i Do think he looks kind of decapitated and all that red looks like blood...he does look evil tho, I must say! The shininess of his crown looks cool tho!

the colors are very nice... nice texture overall... I don't get the "great" part of him at all... he just looks evil entirely... which works for the piece mos definetly.

Yeah, I agree with ya. Maybe I'll do one of Feanor portraying his lighter side. In general he does end up being a pretty twisted character.
