Ahh that's an easy one! You can see it when you look at people. The eyes, lips and nose gives a person's true intentions away easily. Now if only that would work on anime characters.... *pout*
I honestly can say that I like all of the original YuGiOh characters. Some more, some less. Ryou's up high on my list while Tea/Anzu is on the bottom. I don't hate her- she's more like the annoying sister that's crushing on my best friend type of character to me. lol

I also put Ryou high on the list, and Tea is an "Okay" character.
Where she loses points is where she has this "love conflict" between choosing Atem or Yugi.
I get that Atem is better looking and has a lot of confidence, but if you think about it, Atem is alive because of Yugi.
Ishizu said that Yugi is a descendant of him, sooooo....you get a later-to-be-confident guy with a dash of sweetness. You get everything!
Not sure if anyone else feels the same but that's just my opinion.

(Although, I don't like fics where they display Yugi as a slave and put him through serious BS and BDSM without a legitimate reason.

Yea.... YGO can be reeeeeallly dark sometimes. Still, if it's well written then I can enjoy dark themes very much just like fluff. 'still like fluff better. xD
AND the world needs more Seto. It's amazing how much can be in a character. I mean, it's awesome to experiment with these characters and then place them into new situations to see how they react.
I'll answer in that note then. I can handle dark.... I have a real life yami as a girlfriend after all. If I get uncomfortable I'll let you know but I swear on my honor and my heart that I will never bash or lash anyone for their backstory. It's sadly true. Most fanfiction is either wish fulfillment, bad grammar or just boring. Finding these gems is what makes a good read so much sweeter though.
I'm giving you a warning- Never go and read "My brother's keeper" NEVER EVER. Regardless how masterfully it's written. Heed my warning and protect your heart.
Aahhh. My own people tend to say " Tja " instead. Haha, so I learned something new. Way cool.
Now, combine a good amount of humor with nerve-tingling action - add a teaspoon of darkness and mix in a lot of fluff. Then bake until you reach the golden plot-climax and serve fresh to your readers. I've seen sooo many people freak out over the content when it's the beginning and the ending that's critical to a story. The content is like blood that keeps fiction alive- the beginning is the arteries and the ending is the veins. If one is crippled then the whole idea dies- however genius it may have been.
Pa.... hmm... Imagine Superman with the attitude of a late 80's metalhead BUT totally fluffy on the inside. lmao It's fun to make harmless fun of family members.

A boring story is still better than a messed up one. OR the ones that you can't even read. Seriously if the formatting is all over the place I freak out. x'D
It's labeled wrong and has the worst possible ending since 2004. It's based off of a book, maybe that's why it sounds familiar? I hate it when people label their fanfics wrong and don't warn readers in the summary of what they are getting themselves into. It appears as bittersweet family fanfic - it's tragedy and hurt in reality.
You are on your own and doing fine so far. Remember, I had a team to back me up when I wrote. That's much easier! I'm sure that you can be a great writer if you want to. You're not careless, that's good. As long as it's believable, characters are in character (or parodied OOC) and you don't bring out the deus ex machina ending then things should go nicely.
