Description Modeled in 3dsmax; previews rendered with Corona Renderer A6.

A detailed set of 5 tools, commonly used by woodworkers and wood sculptors. The collection includes 5 individual, highly detailed models that will help you complete a virtual workshop, or to use separately where needed, as scene filler.  The complete set consists of a very reasonable 19,732 total polygons, 16,976 verts; 97% quads, and just 3% tris, no ngons.

All models have been carefully UV unwrapped by hand, with particular attention to island placement, and come with all necessary texture maps for color, specular (reflection), glossy (blurry reflections), and bump channels at 2048x2048 pixel resolution.  The provided texture maps are the same maps used in the preview renders of this set.  Each texture map has been laboriously hand-painted, in several layers, and contains photo-realistic details which will hold up under even the most demanding camera angles and close-up shots.  The objects were designed to work well with almost any seamless texture or procedural material you choose.

Alternatively, you can also find and download this set from the following resource locations, including additional previews and wireframe renders:

Turbosquid.com
ShareCG.com

You are free to use or modify these models as you see fit for your own projects or scenes. As with all my freebies, the objects can be used for both commercial and non-commercial renders. You may NOT, however, resell or redistribute these models or textures, or any derivative of them; individually, or as part of a package/set.

OBJ USERS:  Please refer to the included README.txt for specific instructions on the recommended import procedure for the models in this package.

You can find my previous free model here:

Great work and it seems to be very low poly with that.

LuxXeon In reply to UncleSub [2014-06-20 23:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!  The poly count is considerably low, and each item, individually could probably be converted to work in a game engine fairly easily, if one chose to do that.  However, I didn't intentionally model them to be game engine friendly.  They were created specifically for high poly rendering.  There's several wireframe renders of all the objects at the Turbosquid or ShareCG locations, if you wanted to see the topology.

You did a great job on the wear and tear.  It's obviously from use and not random.

LuxXeon In reply to kobaltkween [2014-06-20 22:38:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much.  The texturing took more time than the actual modeling; all hand-painted in layers directly on the models.

Great models.
The wood texture looks perfect.
If you had put more rust in the metal I would say they were for real. My father have some of these tools, so I use to see them with lot of rust.

Thank you, Micheuss!  I'm glad you like it.  Was your father a woodworker?  Woodworking, as an art-form, has always been extremely inspirational to me.  Some of the world's greatest carved sculptures are done in wood, and the work I see done in some old architecture was just mind-boggling.  I relate wood carving to what we, as 3D modelers, do with polygons, even more closely than stone sculpting.

No, although my father had regular jog he also used to be a carpenter, bricklayer, plumber, ...
So I grew up surrounded by a lot of tools. He had a small house to store them where I used to play with some of them during my childhood. Once, I did a small human head using some of those tools - horrible.

That's cool!  I never really tried to do any wood sculptures in the real world, but I am fascinated by them.  The amazing geometric wood sculptures by George W. Hart are some of the most intriguing I've ever seen.  Also, the wood sculptures of Brent Collins were very inspirational to me as a 3D artist.

Glad you noticed.  I learned a few new unwrapping techniques recently, which I applied to these models.  I spent quite a bit of time working out good island placement so that the texture painting could be done in both Photoshop and 3d Coat seamlessly, which is something I hadn't done for any previous models. The textures are all hand painted in layers.  I'm going to make a thread featuring some of the larger renders and wires on Rosity.
