After Arthur told Merlin about the dinner, he told (Y/N) about it. She thought it could be fun if Merlin was going to be there with her.

The night came and Arthur was anxious. He wanted to see her again, talk to her, even the fact of being near her was enough to him.

Among all the people, he saw his manservant. "Merlin!!"

He saw (Y/N) beside Merlin, chatting with Guinivere. She looked wonderful. Her (h/c) hair was fixed in a way that highlighted her beautiful (e/c) eyes.

He walked towards (Y/N) trying to look handsome and manly, but his nervousness betrayed him. He ended up colliding with Gwaine. Arthur just looked at him with annoyance. "I'm sorry" Said Gwaine. Arthur looked into (Y/N)'s direction to find her trying to hide the smile that had formed on her lips at seeing his 'accident'.

-"Sire, (Y/N)" Merlin said

-"You!...I remember you...Arthur! no?"

-"Yes! I'm-" Arthur tried to introduce himself.

-"Oh no! King...Arthur?! I'm so sorry, I didn't knew it I-" (Y/N) Said, slightly blushing.

-"It's fine..." He said, slightly touching her shoulder."I never told you about it "

-"Wait...do you know each others?" Merlin looked at them in confusion.

-"He helped me when I arrived to Camelot." She looked at Arthur "I mean you helped me,Sire."

-"It's fine, really" He said.

After that there was a brief moment of silence. He stared into her eyes, her beautiful (e/c) eyes, like there was something else, like they were hiding something. It wasn't for a long time, just a couple of seconds were enough to identify that she was not 'ordinary', although he didn't know what was that 'something'. She was nervous, now that she knew that she was in front of the King of Camelot, she started to feel observed. And while he was wondering about the mystery behind her and admiring her beauty, she was worried that maybe he knew something about her secret...about her magic. On the other hand, Merlin was trying to protect (Y/N) from Arthur, he knew that was very dangerous for her to be involved in any form with him, knowing that the King doesn't understand magic like he does.

-"(Y/N), come with me, I want to...I want you to meet someone..." Merlin didn't know what to use as excuse. He wanted her to stay away from Arthur...at least until she learns how to control her magic. When she told Merlin about her magic, she told him about not being able to control it at will, so Merlin was afraid of her doing something that could scream 'MAGIC' like setting something on fire...or someone.

-"With your permission, Sire"
Arthur saw her walking away, with Merlin by her side. 'Why is Merlin always with her?! Can't she be alone for just a moment? Maybe they really are a couple' Thought Arthur. And what if they are...what would Arthur do? Certainly that girl was becoming very important to him, and well, Merlin although being an idiot, was important to him too. Maybe it was better let them to be happy...besides he is the King! he could have every girl he wanted...

Merlin saw Percival and Leon. Perfect excuse.
-"She is my friend, (Y/N). They are: Sir Percival, Sir Leon"

-"Hello, beautiful lady" Said Percival, (Y/N) simply smiled.
They talked about a lot of things, like being a Knight of Camelot, and about silly things like when Arthur and Merlin met for first time.
(Y/N) felt very comfortable with them.

The night wasn't as Arthur wanted it to be. His idea of the night was to talk to (Y/N), to know more about her, maybe to dance with her?, but no, at the end of the event, he had actually talked to her just once. He felt like a coward, he couldn't find the way to properly talk to her without feeling stupid.

The next morning

Merlin was walking through the hallways of the castle carrying Arthur's breakfast when he heard:
-"Merlin! MERLIN!!"
Merlin took a deep breath and opened the door to Arthur's chambers.
-"Why did you take so long? I'm hungry"
-"It looks like someone isn't happy today..."
'Why would I be happy if you are with the girl I like' Arthur thought.
-"Why would I be happy if you are always so useless"
-"and you a dollophead" Responded the young warlock in a low voice.
-"What did you say?"
-"and you so nice"
-"I heard something different"
-"You are deaf"
-"Merlin...shut up"
Merlin in fact stayed silent.
-"Merlin"
-"I didn't say a thing!"
-"No, no. I just" He made a pause "you never told me you had a girlfriend" Arthur could hear the fear in his own voice, he didn't want to hear the response.
-"A girlfriend?"
-"Yes, (Y/N). She is your girlfriend, no?"

-"(Y/N)? Nope. She is my friend" Merlin was confused. Arthur had never asked him about his sentimental life.
-"Uh...I thought she was..."
-"Nope. She is not. And why is the King of Camelot interested in my personal life? I thought you had more important things to think about, Sire."

-"I was trying to have a conversation, you idiot. Now get out"
-"Prat"
-"What did you say"
-"Nothing, your Majesty" Said Merlin with a forced smile and left the room.

In the moment that Merlin closed the door, Arthur's huge smile illuminated the room, he was happier than a little child with a new toy. 'I need to talk to (Y/N)' he decided.
