Description My first IR attempt with D200.

Hope you like the color.

Btw, the photo ain't sharp, yes. I think it was caused by the distortion correction, which I did at a reduced resolution, because I thought that would use less RAM, and I could work faster???

[EDIT]

This is a sharper version...

Enjoy...

so did you figure out the distortion correction thingie or why the foto wasn't sharp the 1st time round? Btw so how did you manage to obtain a sharp foto in the end?

lxrichbirdsf In reply to am-y [2006-11-01 18:13:43 +0000 UTC]

..

It was ok in sharpness, but when I distorted it at a low resolution it turnt out to be quite blurry...so I did it again at a higher resolution...

Oh ya! Very cool!! Was it expensive to buy? How do you use it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lxrichbirdsf In reply to Silver-Dew-Drop [2006-10-30 16:20:46 +0000 UTC]

The one I bought wasn't cheap compared to smaller sizes...

Just screw on the filter like any other filters on to the lens..., and later steps are quite difficult to explain...

Interesting attempt my friend, but, colour disappointment, it looks like cut and paste, i think becos of the white flats and intensed yellowing lar . . well, i think its because you wana stand out from the Standards? well, you always do . . Oh well, mm..compo, should be interesting for our foreign friends eh..

i agree with azlan on the MTF issue, might want to increase the aperture a little? a since you've got a tripod y not set it to iso 100? Its pretty noisy you know .. .? Oh well, hmm, i think i shant emphasis more, later you misunderstand me again.

Well, everything said was in fairly neutral state-of-mind, and well, a brave attempt for a weird colour combination.

lxrichbirdsf In reply to asianrabbit [2006-10-25 15:52:24 +0000 UTC]

......I see you and Azlan are really good buddies...

...Ya, I wanted some different colors???

Well, hmm...I think the pic is not sharp because that I did a distortion correction at a reduced resolution, which cause the reduction in sharpness...???

Yes...I applied some sharpening after I saw the photo was not sharp..., and so the noise became more obvious...

hm..well, just my 2 cents, take it or leave it, no offences.

Oh wells, dun think too much have a good night rest,

Later.

erm... I am also doing IR shots...
so I would like to ask you something, is the original photo taken in total red colour, like having some kind of red filter on? the onli difference is the colour of the trees?

I did a shot outside of my house in IR recently too...!
but I was kinda shock with the results... especially with a red photo...

btw... gd attempt at IR photography...
Cheers!

Oh...my turned out to be actually 'colorful', but not the normal color.

The sky was some thing yellowish, and trees were blueish...

Perhaps you should try setting the WB to manual. I think CS there are some users who are experts in IR you can consult with.

justintanwy In reply to metallilan [2006-10-25 15:07:06 +0000 UTC]

hmm... I tried that and read through CS thread on IR Photography many times... but not sure what's wrong with my cam's instant WB...

Hope asianrabbit could help out...
and thanks for the contribution.

lxrichbirdsf In reply to justintanwy [2006-10-25 15:57:18 +0000 UTC]

You should use custom WB, I measured the WB on my D200.

If not, yes the photo would be reddish...

icic... I am using an Olympus E500... so kinda different...

anyway, it is only a bit redish but not wholesale red right..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lxrichbirdsf In reply to justintanwy [2006-10-25 16:43:56 +0000 UTC]

I think it would totally red, as if there's a red filter applied to it...

metallilan [2006-10-25 14:20:17 +0000 UTC]

I guess you're testing this out. So my thoughts.

1. It looks a bit soft. But maybe its just me. IR ain't never sharp, but i think f/8 would be better. Since for a D200, prolong exposure is necessary. Remember to take care of the MTF and the diffraction of your lens.

2. Color combination. Red and Yellow. Might work. Standard for others is Blue Sky, white leaves. For me, well, i don't like it much. But alright per say.

3. Composition? Not appealing to me. Sorry.

I wouldn't say its nice or cool or anything. But a worthy attempt.
