Description
I'm moving some of my work from my other account over to this one. Here is the original description:
The reference photo I used for this is by a photographer named Peggy Kelsey. Quoted from her site [link] : 'The Afgahn Women's Project sent her to Afghanistan in 2003 to photograph and interview women to explore what helped them survive their ordeals.' She took a series of stunning photographs and interviewed these women in a very personal way. This photo is of a women named Tajwar. I immediately fell in love with her wise eyes and knew I had to draw her. Here is a quote from Tajwar's interview with Peggy:
"Just every night for one hour I looked in the mirror, I talked to my reflection, I asked what will I do? I made a plan and every time I put the way to me and I saw that if I go that way, I wil die, I will be finished. If I go in the other way, how will I face it?"
She kind of put my own problems in perspective.
I chose to begin this piece because I really wanted to practice drawing fabric, it is something I've always struggled with, and need to work on. (Any suggestions on fabric? I'd appreciate any pointers you might have.) I chose to finish this piece because Tajwar had such an emotional impact on me, her inner beauty and strong soul were enchanting. I hope I have captured her well. I think I will continue to draw some of the other women in the series, they are all beautiful, strong women.
