BTW, do you know solution for issue with sharp shadow edge (when using bump maps and sunlight) ?

Well, generally speaking one usually increases the physical size of the light source to get softer shadows ... but that you'd already know so it must be something else ... are you thinking of a non-smooth (bump mapped) object having a sharp edged shadow as a problem?

Well, such object looks unrealistic (even ugly), even if I assign bump map for character's skin for exampleΒ 
My own solution is using 'transmission' node (for cloth) and (subsurface)scattering for skin... not perfect, but works quite well
