Description
[Edit - 29 March 11]When I looked into this art again, I felt something amiss. Her eyes seem dead and doesn't have realism sense. Therefore I try darken a bit her eyes and put more color on her eye bags. And then I sharpen her face by putting more shadow on both side of chin.
So to those who newly learn about realism, do take note that shadow, even though you apply a bit, it does make a lot of difference.
[Edit - 28 Oct 10]
I realized that the thumbnail looks a little bit odd. So after cracking my head to see what's the problem, I realized I need to do some adjustment of lighting and shading. Yup, a little change of those makes lots of difference.
And I actually accidentally hid the scratch at her right cheek. So I move it upward to make it more apparent
For those have no idea who she is, she is the leading character from one of the Square-Enix (formerly Squaresoft) survival RPG, Parasite Eve 1 & 2 which both games released for PS1 (Haha, that's a long one). One of the reason I like this game is because the character was drawn by none other than Tetsuya Nomura and music composed by Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts & FFVersus XIII). So this time, they spawn the series again... a spin-off series called The 3rd Birthday and make it for PSP.
This artwork took me a decent 2 weeks plus to finish. Considered this is my simplest realism artwork and fastest ever. The reason is more towards that I'm only drawing her face.
While for your perception, it's nothing different... There are few achievement in this artwork.
1. The face drawn was NOT based on any reference but with guideline, thanks to *hel999 tutorial [link] But due to inexperience of drawing from no reference, I have to make several digital adjustment like using crop tool to enlarge or reposition certain face features like eyes and mouth (LOL, I just can't stand imperfection or disproportion of features).
The shading and lighting have been made reference using one of the The 3rd Birthday official wallpaper. (I'm not good when come to shade and light position
2. Yay, it's the first time that I do blood and watery effect. These are not refer from any tutorial but experiment in trial and error process.
3. If you look really carefully, you can see some fragment of hair which don't belong to Aya but Lightning of FFXIII. In fact I did redraw her hair with Lightning's and plan to incorporate. But the plan seems to be a bit fail, since I plan to make Lightning appearance a little more obvious. Nevertheless it still run smooth.
Okay, if you ask what's the story behind this artwork... I suggest you watch the latest trailer. Injury and sweat/water on her face were based on that. And the blue and red petals were inspired from Aya "Overdrive" (if that's the name) shifting ability (LOL, she possess over Lightning's body as there's an option that you could dress as her in the story)
Anyway, I hope you like it! Enjoy!

Thank you! Yeah, I did plan to put Lightning's full face in lower opacity but still will cover Aya's face which gives less details of her face. So I just put some fragment of Lightning's hair instead

Haha lol..
Sort of strange that Aya and Lightning are close enough to be called sisters really.. granted, SE has already did that with the crossover costumes XD

Thank you very much! Sometimes I love to put in some hidden easter eggs and details into my artwork. That way, people will look longer at the artwork rather than one time glance.
