Description A colored sketch from waaay back, because I have a new, very stupid headcanon for human!Soundwave and needed a drawing to go with it.

So I think h!Soundwave is one of those very pale, almost colorless guys who are so unremarkable and plain that they feel like a part of the scenery. He speaks funny - with strange grammar/accent - because he’s your stereotypical Russian spy who doesn’t speak English very well and stays quiet out of embarrassment.

TFP Soundwave is such a mysterious, awesome character that I can't stop thinking about him, but I seriously can't tell where had that Russian spy idea came from. And now I can't help to try and think about what would the other cons look like as humans.

Wow

Did you really put "russian spy" and "embarassement" into one sentence?! That is weird.

Also, russians aren't usually that pale/blond

I love th pic. Would call him cocky rather embarrassed though

I said that it was a very stupid headcanon.

The "Russian spy" expression originally had quotation marks around it, because it's more about the stereotype than actual Russians - in English speaking countries it is a common "misconception" that Russians are either spies or have a very thick accent.

About that embarrassment thing... are you familiar with the Dragon Age games? They have a very perfectionist/militaristic/overall weird race (the qunari) that are hardly heard speaking, because in their culture, it is an embarrassment to speak if you don't know the language perfectly.

I think for a communications officer/top-notch spy it would be... well, embarrassing might be a strong word, but decidedly uncomfortable if he spoke with an ear-grating accent and weird grammar. (That's how I translate his machine-monotone to human speech.)

And he looks more like someone from up North, probably Swedish or Norwegian, but I never heard any stereotype concerning Swedish spies. This headcanon needs some adjustment before I would be content with it.

well... you're off the hook

I got the speech emarassement idea (and like it), it's just that being a spy requires a lot of self-control and inner calm and that doesn;t go well with letting your embarassement control your behavior.

I like the hi-tech visor he is still wearing.

The visor is part of the mystery of the character.
Human!Soundwave likes messing with his colleagues - Scream in particular - by "miraculously" projecting things on his visor. For real, the controls of his visor are hidden in his sleeves and can be operated with very small movements of the hand.
