Description
This is the third jewel fish I've done so far. I should note that, since the world of DEEP is presumably in the not-near future, space travel is an element. So, these jewel fish are examples of several lineages of vertebrate-like animals from many different worlds.
This particular fish was really fun to paint, as I spontaneously made design decisions and changed my mind several times. It was very enjoyable finding the right shapes.
The concept:
The Discus Dragon comes in many striking colorations, including the Red Sunrise breed pictured here. These gregarious jewel fish get along well with each other or will other fish of similar size. Their thin, flat bodies are relatively rigid and inflexible, so most propulsion comes from the single caudoventral fin. A pair of pectoral fins just behind the head add stability.
