Hi Charrick, thanks for the compliments,
the depth of field in this shot was really tricky, - I found the best way to do it was to paint the creature quite defined to about half way, and then using a combination of blur tools and airbrush in Painter to soften it down, - it just took a long time to get right, there were no short cuts,- the wings also are each treated separately for effect, sometimes I could just put a motion blur on a previously painted wing, - btw you need good reference shots of insects in flight to see how light bounces off the wings of various species, they're all different - over time I learnt how to paint this effect just using a pallet knife in Painter, softly deleting the edges and shaping it with the warp effect in photoshop to get them looking just so.

This looks like a "macro" shot! How you can get the effects like the slow tapering off with the depth of field, and the perfect fluttering of wings, I'll never know. This is really some of the best artwork I've ever seen!
