Description     One of my favorite characters from Norse mythology, Fenrir. One of the three children of Loki by the giantess Angrboda along with Jormungandr and Hel. Upon learning about them, Odin first cast Jormungandr into the sea where he grew so large he circled all of Midguard. Hel was placed in charge of hell. (With a name like that where else?) Fenrir was kept along side their hunting hounds because who doesn’t want a giant wolf to hunt with?

Unfortunately, he grew big really quick and soon the Aesir feared him so much that only Tyr, god of war and honor could feed him. Odin knew exactly what he was capable of so the Aesir tried to bind him three times. They presented it as a contest to prove his strength which Fenrir gladly accepted. He broke his bindings three times with little effort. The forth time the commissioned the Dwarves to make bindings for him and were given a ribbon to hold him in place.

By this point Fenrir knew something was up and wouldn’t be bound by it unless one of the Aesir placed his hand into his mouth. The only one brave enough to do it was Tyr, and he willingly place his hand into the wolf’s mouth. When Fenrir was bound, Fenrir found he couldn’t break free and bit off Tyr’s hand. There he remains bound until Ragnorok.

I always felt bad for Loki’s three children. Punished for something they could have done but hadn’t done yet. Fenrir especially, all he was doing was going through his growth spurt. Anyways I felt like kicking a little mythological lore your way. What do you think? Was Odin right to bind the big guy as a precaution? Or should giant wolves roam free?

edit: (For some reason my description for my Bukavak image ended up here I just swapped em. Sorry!)

FUN FACT

The word "Hell" actually came to be BECAUSE of Hel, back when the Christians were trying to antagonise other religions. Well they did succeed in making this one disappear...

Awesome art piece. Just plain awesome

What is merely antagonizing to you is merely just preaching what the Gospel says.

With the reveal of Atreus's destiny and lineage, I've suspected that his children would at least bear markings akin to their grandfather.

Wow -- very cool!  And I totally side with Loki and his children in these myths.  Odin essentially created a self-fulfilling prophecy by wronging the three, thus guaranteeing that they would eventually seek revenge.  And what did any of them do to deserve it?  Hel looked unusual.  Jor looked unusual, and was very big.  Fenrir looked unusual, and was very big and very hungry.  None of that equates to "evil."

I agree. Well I don’t mind Loki’s kids but Loki is a different story. If something went wrong it was usually his fault. But I don’t blame the kids for that.
