This kind of reminds me of the tripods in War Of The Worlds (2005), the lens-eye at the end of their probes....Really cool design, man.

Right here I used a lot of dodging and burning. You can tell from the horrrrible banding

Nice! Looks really good. Love the angles. And the shapes. Only thing I hate about burn/dodge is the striations/banding it causes. Smudge it?

Was starting to worry that I was the only one making interfaces anymore

I duplicated the layer, created a clipping mask and gave it some heavy gaussian blur. Then set the blur layer as "screen" Didn't lose all the banding, but it made a clear difference.
