Ah, that's nice!  Me and my brothers used to work together on creating fan characters; unfortunately, one of my brothers pretty much lost interest in the games I'm into, so that left me on my own (the other one admits he's not a good artist).

I don't find the idea of fan children bad, per se, but it usually ties into shipping; and if one makes a fan kid, that's pretty much sealing the deal on who you ship.  Technically yeah, you could change your mind, but I'd rather not be wishy-washy and give an OC the ax because I decide not to ship their parents anymore.  Or worse-case scenario, one of the parents canonically dies...   As I try to stay low key when it comes to ships, I really don't have the devotion to go that far.  I am very curious about the parents of official characters though...

At leadt you can still create characters, and talk about them with other people!

Hmm, well no one says you can't make more fan children, from different ships, after all you can make diferent universes to make them exist!
If one stops liking the ship, you may already be nvested on your character and keep them, or slightly change them to fit your new likings!
Believe me, if one of the parents dies, that won't stop people from making fankids, haha~

Yeah!

True; I try not to do the whole "alternate universe thing" though, I want my stories to have a solid connection to what's canon.  But that's just me.
