I'm pleased to announce the release of lore and preliminary designs for Scatterstar-Isles !!!
Scatterstar is a living project between Clockrobber and I, and I'm very proud to present to you our hard work!

ABOUT CURIOS

This is the release of a species called curios, a rather short race of intelligent, sphinx-like people who survive and thrive in the wilds of Scatterstar!

They're quite resourceful, and have gone from simple clans roaming untended land to complex cities and trade networks spanning all the islands and coastline. The lives they've built exist in the ruins of another, larger race, but these ancients have long since vanished from the world curios know, so it's up to them to forge a new world from the scraps left behind.

Some of their success and advancements are due to an interesting ability: a powerful self-generated energy that forms a closed, invisible shape around a curio, known as the 'auric egg'. This allows them augmented senses and a marvelous intuition. While useful, however, it also can wreak havoc on an unprotected curio as it fluctuates with mood and health. To protect from these side effects, a variety of absorbing stones and crystals are used as energy sinks, capturing the excess safely and stabilizing the auric egg. These are best kept on the end of a powerful tail due to the necessary size, and have become not only a hallmark of curio health, but a fashion statement everyone in Scatterstar can get into.

It also just so happens that this energy field can power up and charge a variety of wireless electronics, left behind by the last civilization! It's been awfully useful to have access to computing technology before curios would have invented it on their own, but it still takes ingenuity and talent to make these things work. Electronic notebooks, handheld radios, primitive mapping systems--all are indispensable on the far-flung expeditions that the most adventurous curios take on!
