Description

Devas

Devas (from buddhist Deva, the realm and its deities) are a Closed Species.
Their designs are based on gems and minerals as well as gold.

  Personality

Deva are a peaceful species who are considered very beautiful due to their shining and palatial bodies. They avoid fighting and conflict, however are often being stolen away, kidnapped or made profit of. Despite knowing how attractive they are to other living beings, they do not pride themselves with it. Deva are generally a modest people, but know to use their qualities to get around. Living around other species, they are often occupied as models, living decoration or used as salespeople where appearance can give a big advantage. Devas have, like humans and many other species, first names! Now and then you will meet Devas that are named after the gem they are made of, but it is certainly not the norm.

Traits

Devas have several traits which seem to be equally common among all of them, but there yet seem to be undiscovered traits!

Gems and Skin

Devas can be made any kind of mineral. These reflect in their hair and eyes, which are always the same color. They usually very colorful and every part showing their gem shines brightly in light. A Deva can not be made of two kinds of minerals naturally.
A Deva's mineral can be seen in various places, like their legs, arms or horns. Some have no gem showing on their body at all, and merely show it through their hair and eyes.
Devas skin-colors are very varied. They will range from white to black, from pinkish to dark brown.

Horns

A Deva's horns can have various shapes. They can have gold veins or look like goat horns, be small and nubby, or potrude from their foreheads. The options are seemingly endless! They can also vary in color or show their gemstone, though most are white like bone. Their horns are a popular spot to adorn with accessories, yet some like to not draw any further attention to them as their horns are a sought after prize. Some people go great lengths to break them off and steal them, and its not unheard of that a careless Deva has lost a piece of their horn or in its entirety on accident. Their horns cannot grow back.

Spine

Devas can have gemstone show in various places. This includes their "spine". It reflects their gem or mineral as well and is part of their tails. Devas do not actually have bones, however. Gems protrude like bone or spikes out of their backs, reminiscent of transverse processes. (image ref)

Tails

The ones living on land seem to all sport bony looking tails that are an extension of their spine-like adornment. Also another popular spot for accessories. They seem to slightly vary in size and gem structure.

Body-structure

Devas do not have bones and will break and shatter into pieces instead. It is very hard to break them without using a harder material than themselves if not impossible. Devas can break themselves if they are not careful and, for example, fall, the velocity causing an impact hard enough for them to crack or shatter. Luckily, they can reattach their lost pieces.
Deva's also don't have sexes and do not grow breasts.

Mutatations and Fusions It recently has been discovered that some Devas have odd mutations in their faces or body parts. An example would be a Deva with three eyes, one trying to share space with another one on the same side. This can be tracked back to a failed Fusion. A Fusion takes place if a Deva takes some of their own body and attaches it to another Deva of a different mineral. In most cases the fusion will not go smoothly and mutations happen. This is done as a form of donation if a Deva loses parts of their body and is unable to reattach it (in case of theft, unable to find a lost piece, etc).

Size Devas do age like most living beings, but because they do so slowly, young looking Devas can be much more mentally mature than their appearance might give away. Not all fully grown Devas grow and physically mature as much as others, leaving them with a more child-like or feminine body, while others can grow enough to be reminiscent of young adult human males. Maturer Devas are also taller than their less matured counterparts.  (image ref)

AttireDevas are rarely sloppy! They are mostly seen wearing elegant clothing of high-quality materials. You may see them in comfortable clothes when they are on their own, but even then you will almost never find them in ripped, stained or otherwise sleazy looking attire.

All traits are subject to change, more traits may be added!
Devas are a closed species, do not make your own!

Devas remind me of the Gems from Houseki no Kuni. Was that your inspiration behind the design?

Various things factored into the species, but the idea of a gem species is inspired by HNK yes!

So I had a quick question (more out of curiosity than anything LOL)!

Can a Deva's mineral be a "color-enhanced" gem such as the various types of aura quartz ? o: Or are they strictly natural minerals?

oh my I havent actually thought about that, but I think that for now I want to allow only natural gems before I can think about this properly ^^

Can I draw fanart of this...??(I don't know about "adopt" rules in details in dA... so it's okay if it cannot be accepted)

thank you!  Im not sure what of it you want to draw fanart of, but feel free to draw fanart of  him! He's my own Deva. Any other existing Deva belongs to people who adopted them so you'd ask to them if you want to draw their designs ^^
