Description

Lesser desert drake for my fantasy world building project.

Here we have an adult male. These dragons grow up to 8 meters in length and their wingspan sometimes reaches 14 meters. They are fast, agile hunters who are active during the night, unlike most reptilian creatures. Their aggressive, fierce character prevents humans from taming these beasts.

This drake is covered in scales from a tip of a nose to end of its tail. Weak parts of its armor are wing membranes, yellow colored part of its belly, an underside of its paws and area around eyes and nostrils. Scales may look heavy and stiff but they are quite flexible and bigger ones are hollow inside.

Impressive wingspan helps with gliding through the sky during hunting time, these wings are not made to supporting long distance flights. Because of their anatomy lesser, desert drakes needs a running start when they want to take to the skies.

Minor sexual dimorphism can be seen only in adults as females have vestigial   neck frill. Desert drakes have mating seasons twice a year. Males search for a suitable place for a nest and start hoarding materials for one. Nearby females then choose partner with nest they like more and mating dance begins. When two males meet they probably will start fighting and hitting each other with their neck frills. The beaten one would flee and the winner can then scavenge abandoned nest for materials.

Cool creature design!  I really like the spiky parts and the colour scheme.  It definitely looks suited to the desert.
