Description
This is part two of a three part commission I'm doing for someone. (Part One was here: [link] )I know it seems that at times I'm a little too Transformers-centric. If you're a fan of the history of the franchise at all, like me, then you know what this is and it's importance. For those that do not know, I'll fill you in.
This is the panel from Marvel's G1 Transformers, Issue One. This is the introduction panel for many of the characters, but not just for the comic... What many don't realize is that Marvel's G1#1 debuted not only a few months before the cartoon show aired in '84, but before the toyline even launched in June of that month. (It debuted in May of 1984.) This means that this panel I got to recolor here is not only the first appearance of most of the characters like Bumblebee, Hound, Jazz and Bluestreak... But their first appearances period.
So when my friend got a hold of the lineart, he asked me to color it for him. It took me a while as I was doing it in between Shadowgirls pages and what not, but it's done. So it was kind of an honor to color this one.
Hope you all like.
Artwork by Bob Budiansky and the late Frank Springer. Colors by me.

He wasn't originally in the original lineart. He was added in later.

Maybe... But this was probably the first drawing of them ever made in any official capacity. So I'm personally willing to let it slide.

I remember this original art being sold on eBay. I snatched a pretty good image off of that auction (thankfully, the images were pretty large!)
Congrats on whoever won it. Your colours look amazing!

Nice, I love seeing the old lineart from the Marvel comics recolored using modern tech. It usually almost makes up for how horrible the art could be in those comics back then. XD

Let's see: My first Transformer was Sunstreaker, got him for Christmas. My brother got Mirage. Afterwards I got Hound, Bumblebee and Ironhide (or was it Ratchet).
Never owned Optimus, but I did have an Ultra Magnus.

My first Transformer that wasn't a bootleg from K-Mart or something (like an official one) was Twin Twist the Jumpstarter followed by a red Bumblebee.
Always had an appeal toward the automotive robots over the ones that turned to jets and stuff.

ah, the glorious infodump page.
"Why yes, we all usually refer to ourselves in the third person and talk about what we can do all day!"
Cheesy as it may be, i did enjoy those early marvel days. I need to find all my old comics, i'm getting all nostalgic.
the modern coloring on the old linearts is a nice touch, you did a great job and it really stands out well.

Gawd, this brings back memories. I can remember being 7 years old and seeing this in the BMX on Ramstein AFB. I begged my mom and dad to buy this for me, and they did! I must have read that book a couple hundred times...
And then the movers stole all of my comics when I moved back to the states.
Ah well; still good memories.
