Continuing the MTMTE thingie from here: [link] It's another member. Like the last member, I don't really know the character's story, so I can only tell you what I thought of into the design.

Basically the client's not a huge robot buff, and she's more into costume design of the rather intricate design. (We're talking more SCA and less Final Fantasy.) She wanted instead of a vehicle, the mythical bird of the Roc. As tempted as I was to draw Dwayne Johnson, I decided to not be an ass and put some thought into the myth. Coming from Persian origins, I went for a Bedouin motif with the design work, using the feathers as a make shift "robe." And then I went with for a Magpie color theme, since I thought the shiny dark blues of the bird feathers would really play up the design.

I'd like to point out that feathers are a freakin' pain to color. Fortunately for me, I don't see many bird characters to color in the future for me, be it Transformers, Shadowgirls, or any other projects I'm working on, so I'm breathing easy. If any of you colorist types out there have any recommendations on techniques to coloring feathers easier and better than what I did, please feel free to share them.

She hasn't even seen this thing yet... I have no idea if she'll even like it. (She's kinda picky.)
