Description Mat the Demented Rabbit

Here is a short film I made from September 2006 to May 2007 for my BA Hons animation degree - "Mat the Demented Rabbit".

The story involves Mat, a rabbit on the run from the relentless cops of Deco City. It is not until the end that you find out why.

Yeah, I know. The sound ain't the best and the story is, well...but I consider this film an experiment, to see what I could and couldn't do. But most of all, it was my chance to have fun and make my very own movie, with my own characters.

If you would like to know more about my film, like 'what software I used', then visit my Mat the Demented Rabbit FAQ here - [link]

I hope you like it

Ohh goodness goodness- very well deserved Mat! I just saw this in the corner and had a bit of a 'omg' moment there.

Well deserved! I bet in not so long we'll be seeing Puupuu's Amazing Raincoat up there soon.

Well done!

I first drew the frames on paper, then coloured them using Photoshop. I then took the completed frames into After Effects.

lol excelent animation, the character designs were really nice too.
Confusing storyline though, which could easily be fixed with a few extra frames dropped in here and there to help with timing.

Over all it's great! Good job!

I caught sight of this looming at the bottom in the Daily Deviations section of DA, and had to check it out! And I must say, I was certainly not disappointed! You have such an awesome animation style! It's so professional looking! It's amazing, I love all the expressions of the characters! And all the humourous touches. This is totally awesome! Mwahaha! Your hard work on this is evident, and it most certainly has paid off!

A fantastic result and a well deserved Daily Deviation!

Keep up the great work! ^___^

Machu In reply to calistamonkey [2009-02-24 11:07:43 +0000 UTC]

I tried to make the animation style like something that would appear on TV. I love cartoons, especially zany American cartoons from the 1990s.
It was a bit hard to do, but I'm glad I finished this film in the end.
I thankyou for your kind works, and especially for taking the time to watch my film. It is appreciated

calistamonkey In reply to Machu [2009-02-24 11:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think you succeeded there! It reminded me of exactly those sorts of cartoons With a hint of comical anime style or something ^_^ I'm a great fan of such cartoons myself, as I am of pretty much all 2D animation ^_^

I can imagine! I can't even do a simple animation like in your avatar for toffee, without it looking really amateur and crap and taking hours, so I can really imagine how much work has gone into this! O_O
And it's no problem! My pleasure ^_^

Machu In reply to calistamonkey [2009-02-24 11:16:25 +0000 UTC]

I was originally into Japanese animation some years ago, but got more into the American cartoons I loved as a kid. This is why you see elements of these styles ^^

I will say that animation takes time to learn, but it's just like learning something new. Even drawing at one stage was something new until you learned to do it, so it is possible

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

calistamonkey In reply to Machu [2009-02-24 11:23:35 +0000 UTC]

Hehe! I'm sure it is possible! But these things take time, and unfortunately I don't really have much time to dabble in these things whole heartedly...The world of science awaits me! D:

I had a little go at making some silly animations, like...10 frame loops or something, but they took me so long and without the "proper tools", I found it incredibly strenuous XD

I'll always love drawing though! ^_^
Hehe, yeah I understand! That's cool ^_^ What kind of cartoons did you like? Your animation reminds me of cartoons like The Mask and Batman and Spiderman and all these kind of things ^_^

Machu In reply to calistamonkey [2009-02-24 11:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Batman: the Animated Series inspired the dark deco style, and I had the tune "Hey, Pachuco" from the Mask movie in my mind when I did the chase scene. I loved the style of Warner Bros. animation in the days of Animaniacs and Batman, and I also loved the old Nicktoons, the Beetlejuice cartoon, the Tick, and World Premier Toons (which appeared on Cartoon Network in the mid-1990s). So a variety of things, but generally action-based stuff

calistamonkey In reply to Machu [2009-02-24 11:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Heck yes! I totally agree! It's a shame that there isn't so much of that sort of wacky "classic" style anymore...where characters had character...rather than these "SUPER COOL LOOKING IAMAFLASHMOVIERIPOFF" style cartoons nowadays...Where they all look the same and you can't tell them apart...O_o

Yes I could see the Batman cartoon style in the city there ^_^ Hehe...cool stuff! And Animaniacs was a classic. Heh.

I like the totally retro stuff like Captain Planet, purely because it amuses me greatly "LAST ONE TO GET THERE HAS TO JUMP IN AN OIL SPILL D:" lol Oh dear...And Thundercats and all that jazz. But yeah, the 90's style animation was funky :3 It's was all true cartoonists should strive for!

Very nice, the animation was really good in a lot of parts. However, I really hated the soundeffects. Either it was too muffled, confusing, or just didn't sound like what it was intended for. But other than that, very nice! Hope you make more animations.

I know, the sound isn't great. This is an experimental film, where I saw what I could and couldn't do (sound being something I'm not great at ). I'm glad you like the animation though, and yes, I will make more
