Description Mat the Demented Rabbit

Here is a short film I made from September 2006 to May 2007 for my BA Hons animation degree - "Mat the Demented Rabbit".

The story involves Mat, a rabbit on the run from the relentless cops of Deco City. It is not until the end that you find out why.

Yeah, I know. The sound ain't the best and the story is, well...but I consider this film an experiment, to see what I could and couldn't do. But most of all, it was my chance to have fun and make my very own movie, with my own characters.

If you would like to know more about my film, like 'what software I used', then visit my Mat the Demented Rabbit FAQ here - [link]

Go here for the Mat the Demented Rabbit poster

I hope you like it

Wow! I've watched this at other place. And it's still good seeing anytime.
I love your characters.
And the way how you draw backgrounds. It's very interesting different style from our Japanese most animation series. Your pespective sense is great.
Awesome work!!

Thankyou for watching Mat the Demented Rabbit again. I'm happy that you still enjoy it
Some of the backgrounds were done by other people (subway to building at 0:13-0:14, sewer, toilet at 0:50-0:51, and lobby). I originally thought of making this film in a Japanese-like style. But I became more influenced by American cartoons from the 1990s, such as the old Nicktoons, the Batman animated series (which influenced me to make the evening sky red) and some Cartoon Network cartoons. So this film's style is influenced both by Japanese and American animation.
I wanted the perspective to look zany, because it was fun to do, and Mat's view of the world is sometimes paranoid. I hope to make more cartoons of Mat and Brixie (the light-haired rabbit) someday

I'm thinking of making subtitles for Mat the Demented Rabbit on Youtube in other languages, because it allows me to do so. So far, I just have English Perhaps DeviantArt will support subtitles one day.

You're welcome.^_^ I know, making animations takes lots of times. But I'm looking forward to watch Mat and Brixie more.
I can't draw backgrounds like cartoons though I love it. Oh, to put subtitles is good. It's hard to understand all spoken English for me. Later I will wathc again on Youtube.

I'd love to make more cartoons with Mat and Brixie
It would be cool to have Mat the Demented Rabbit with Japanese subtitles.

Wow, I love this. The characters are immensely cute as well as expressive, and the animation quality is amazing! It looks professional enough to be an authentic anime or cartoon! (if only it sounded professional enough too! )

It must have taken a whole lot of dedication and effort to complete this thing! I can't imagine putting so much time and effort into a single 3 minute film, wow... (closest I can come to this is having worked on a Flash game and its music since last year... ) Excellent work - I hope to see more epic animations from you someday!

Thankyou for your comments. The sound could have been better, but I was experimenting with techniques, and sound isn't something I normally do
I tried hard to make the quality of the visual look good like the cartoons I watched on TV.

It's good to hear that you worked on a Flash game (I'm not great at the complex technical side of Flash, so I can't make games with it).

One day, I hope to make another great film, or even a TV series.

No problem, it was awesome. I can understand how you focused your efforts on the art and animation more than the sound. The quality of the art and animation is so wonderful and refined, it makes up for the sound!

And I really would love to see more animations and professional works from you! A TV series from you sounds really exciting! I'd totally watch it.

This was awesome! I laughed my ass off with this. the ending was just fantastic! You sure are good with animation! This piece must have consumed time to finish!

By the way, I am curious to know which were the programs you used to produce this?

Machu In reply to JakeHowler [2008-09-26 19:16:47 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou. This animation did take time to do (about 9 months). I drew the frames with pencil and paper, coloured them on Photoshop, and pieced the frames together on Final Cut Pro. I'll answer the question more when I write an FAQ on the film.
I'm happy you liked my film

I loved it!

I'll be waiting for this FAQ then, because I have Final Cut Pro, but I don't remember any function for frame by frame animation like this (I'm a new user though, so there might me lots of things I don't know)

Dude ITS AMAZING I LOVE IT I love how Mat and the other rabbt look so smooth and chubby and round. I also like the part when Mat gets bitten by the fish in his you- no- what- area and has his arms and legs waving in every which way direcion. It is such an amazing video. If there were DA awards You would have to get it for most funny animated movie.

Please make more movies whenever!

I'm happy that you like Mat and Brixie (the other rabbit) So you thought that part where Mat gets bitten by the fish was funny (sorry that part was loud ). My animation was inspired by American action-adventure cartoons from the 1990s and by Japanese animation.

Wow, it would be cool to get an award. At the very least, I'm happy to see that people like my film. I'm not sure when I'll make another film, but I hope when I do that it will be just as funny if not more. Thankyou for your support. It means a lot to hear that

Hmm... I don't think I could choose a part. All of it was quite good, nice twists, good humor (elevator LOL), and the ending was interesting. I really like that you didn't expose the main plot until the end of the story. Which is something you don't see very often. :3

Machu In reply to Kini-Kinoku [2008-09-24 12:59:55 +0000 UTC]

A lot of people like that elevator scene xD
I wanted to keep the reason Mat was being chased a surprise. Originally, he was just going to be chased, then betrayed by Brixie (the light-haired rabbit). It was a friend of mine who suggested the reason for him being chased (which you find out at the end).
